Hello, I am new to the list & wish to post my families of interest. I am a direct descendant of Reuben WRIGHT who married Anne GILBERT in 1798, Surry Co. VA. Reuben appears to be from the affluent Wright family of Brunswick Co. VA who were heavily involved with the Methodist-Episcopal Church. Reuben, some of his siblings & at least one of his sons, James (my line) were Ministers. Anne's grandparents appear to be Joanna (COOPER) GILBERT & Wm GILBERT of Surry Co. VA. I haven't yet determined who her parent were. All 3 of these families were in VA very early (1600s), around Isle of Wight Co., James City Co, Surry, Sussex & other southeastern counties. In about 1820, Reuben & Anne went to Henry Co. IN & some of his siblings went to Green Co. OH. Reuben eventually became a M-E minister in Knightstown, IN. Everywhere this family lived, even in later generations, in OH, IN, IL & eventually MO, there were members of the "Wright Bros" family living very close by but I don't have a connection established between these 2 lines of Wrights, the other of which was from New England. I believe there might be a possibility that Absalom B. Wright of Fentress Co. was also from the same Wright family as my Reuben since some of them also moved to NC. Also, I noticed that there were intermarriages between these 3 families in this area of TN. I'd like to ask if anyone knows where A. B. Wright was from in VA or any other info that might be helpful in my search on any of the 3 families. I have some wonderful old pictures of my line of Wrights, who ended up in Jasper Co.
