The Lady Ann Gunter that I asked you about was b. 1863 and d. 1882, according to the stone in the Garrett Cem. If she is the daughter of Geo. W. & Juda (Garrett) Smith, she would have been the younger sister of Margaret, which I believe her to be and I believe Margaret named Lady Ann b. 1892 after Lady Ann, b. 1863. My original information about Geo. W. & Juda's children & spouses came from my mother, Reba Hester (Beaty) Beaty. This is her ancestry: Reba Hester (Beaty) Beaty, Sarah Jane (Smith) Beaty, James Franklin Smith, Geo. W. Smith. Mother said Geo. W. & Juda's children were: John "John Booher" m. Sarah Booher; Abraham m. Elizabeth Hicks: Eliga m. Mary Howard; Margaret m. Bill Gunter; James Franklin m. Lucinda Angeline Matthews; and Judy Ann m. Jim Gunter. (I believe Mother had the name wrong on the youngest girl. I think she was Lady Ann.) In the James Franklin Smith Family Bible there are these notations regarding a Lady Ann Gunter: 1. Juda A. Gunter, daughter of JAMES & LADY ANN GUNTER b. Jan. 17, 1881. (The birthdate on the stone of Judia Ann Choate is Jan. 17, 1882.) 2. Under "Deaths": 1881 LADY ANN GUNTER. (On the stone of Lady Ann Gunter the death date is Feb. 23, 1882.) These stones are modern ones and easy to read. It could be that the person providing the information was off by one year on dates, which were long ago. Census for Geo. W. & Juda's family: 1850 1860 1870 1880 Geo. W. Smith 28 George Smith 37 Smith, Judia 46 Smith, Juda 56 Juda " 27 Juda " 26 " John 24 " Elijah 22 John " 4 John " 13 " Abram 19 " Margaret 19 Mary A. " 2 Mary " 10 " Elijah 15 " James 17 Abraham " 9 " Margaret 14 " Lady Ann 16 Elijah " 5 " James 11 Margaret 3 " Rodia 7 James A. 11/12 In the 1860 census I believe the middle initial of James to be incorrect. I believe it should be F. as his middle name was Franklin. I believe Rodia and Lady Ann to be the same person. The name Lady Ann is a familiar one to the Smith family and no one ever heard of Rodia. The name Rodia is not in the James Franklin Family Bible. Perhaps Lady Ann was a nickname that eventually became her given name. It is interesting that in the 1870 census there is a James Gunter who lived two household away from the George Smith family. Here are notations for James Franklin Smith, his wife & children in the James Franklin Smith Family Bible: James F. Smith b. June 7, 1860. Lucinda Matthews, wife of James F. Smith, b. Mar. 10, 1862. James F. Smith & Lucinda A. Matthews m. Sept. 3, 1882 at Thomas. Matthews' (home) in Fentress Co. by Alvis Sewell, Esq. James F. Smith d. July 6, 1918. Lucinda A. (Matthews) Smith d. May 16, 1928. Children of James F. & Lucinda A. (Matthews) Smith Mary A. Smith b. Sept. 3, 1883 d. Sept. 9, 1931 Geo. T. Smith b. June 19, 1885 d. Dec. 8, 1948 Johnie G. Smith b. April 1, 1888 Lucinda C. Smith b. Nov. 9, 1890 Alfred Beaty Smith b. Feb. 21, 1894 Sarah J. Smith b. Sept. 23, 1897 d. Oct. 3, 1924 Etter Smith b. June 7, 1899 d. June 8, 1901 Ron, do you have a Garrett ancestor who was related to my gg-grandmother Juda (Garrett) Smith? If so, who was that? I HAVE A QUESTION HERE. IM RESEARCHING SMITHS IN TENNESSEE AS WELL, AND HITTING A BRICKWALL. Is there any way you could check and see if you have a samuel Smith born about 1848 and his brother Henry Smith born in 1838 in your lines. These are lines found last in marion county but i cant seem to find anything on them,. Im hoping you can check and watch for something. Samuel had a wife named Malvina, and sons Robert , james William, and Noah. They are in marion, grundy, warren, morgan and sequatchie counties. thank you jenny ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gerri Goodwin" <gerrigoodwin@cox.net> To: <tnfentre@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 22, 2006 7:55 PM Subject: [TNFENTRE] George W. & Juda (Garrett) Smith Family > The Lady Ann Gunter that I asked you about was b. 1863 and d. 1882, > according to the stone in the Garrett Cem.
