My assumption has been that the two Peter Reagans listed in Overton Co in 1820 are father and son. Both came from Rowan (later Surry, later Wilkes Co, NC) and before that Peter Sr. was in Bute (later Warren Co, NC). Peter Sr. was married to Rebecka Lindsey (the will of Joseph Lindsey of Warren Co seems to make this fact clear) and they both would have been over 45 as the census suggests with no children in 1820. Peter Jr. would have been the one with children. His wife was Nancy Cauthon (her family was in Bute Co, NC). The problem I have had is in sorting the NC relatives of these two. The names are in common and common--Charles, James, John, etc. I haven't found anything yet that makes clear who is connected to whom. There are deeds in the Wilkes Co, NC deed books between some of these. It looks like Peter Reagan (Regan or Ragan for those that stayed in NC it looks like) sold some land to sons or brothers or cousins in order to prepare for his trip to TN. His son Peter went with him but I don't know if others did. Has anyone tracked the Reagans clearly through Rowan Co? The book The Lineage of Amos Ragan is about one family group in Rowan and the supposition is that they were related to Peter Reagan. And most of the names are similar. Some clearly stayed in NC, but some combination went to TN in the early 1800s. Any help out there? Thanks, Sarah
