    3. Looking for information that shows JAMES MONROE EVANS (B/ca1811 VA - D/ca 1878/1880 in IL) is son of 1784 DREWERY EVANS & THEODOCIA JACOBS. JAMES MONROE EVANS Married SARAH ELIZABETH HATFIELD (ca1815 TN-ca 1906 IL) daughter of John HATFIELD & Mary CRAIG, about 1835 - possibly in Tennessee. Is there any land tranactions or Bible record that shows JAMES is son of DREWERY. Would appreciate any information anyone would have. Thanks so much. K.S. Williams

    3. Hi Milly, To see the actual death certificates, you have to sign up at the Beta site. Originally, this was to get people to do transcriptions. You can see the partial transcription of the certificates without the sign-in but they are often incomplete. At least this is how it works in Texas. 1. [TNFENTRE] History of Blue Star Flag
    2. The once-prominent Blue Star Flag that hung in windows in wartime is making a comeback. The flag made a brief appearance during the Persian Gulf War in 1991, but because of the conflicts short duration, never really caught on. The tradition originated with WWI. In 1917, the Congressional Record stated: "The world should know of those who give so much for liberty. The dearest thing in all the world to a father and mother---their children." Also known as a Service Flag, the blue stands for hope and pride. When family members were killed, the blue star was replaced with a gold one representing sacrifice. A silver star stood for someone invalided home for wounds sustained overseas. Lapel pins also sported the same symbols. Captain Robert B. Quiesser, an Ohio National Guard veteran of the Mexican Border (1916), is credited with designing the original flag. During WWII, VFW actively promoted the flag through window cards and the assistance of radio stations. On October 17, 1943, Congress authorized the flag, and in February 1943, the secretary of war approved an official design. Although displaying Blue Star Flag's virtually vanished during the Korean and Vietnam wars, it was not until July 31, 1968, that the Pentagon issued regulations governing the design, use, and purchase of Service flags and pins. I do not have a child in the military or a grandchild, but I do have a nephew in Afghanistan, he was in Iriq for a term too. He is an old man by military standards everybit of 38. We pray for their safety and success in their missions, whatever they do and wherever they serve. We also pray for the parents, brothers, sisters, wives, girlfriends, etc who wait anxiously for their return. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! 3. Happy Thanksgiving to you! Thanks for all you do Milly to help us share and find our ancestors. I didn't know you had a son in Afghanistan, but will be praying for him now that I do know. Our son Micah was in Iraq for two tours, and anxiety would creep into my mind, so I'll be praying for your peace and comfort too. Our son is in South Korea right now, so your prayers would be so appreciated for him too. Thank the Lord in these days we live in we still have young men like these who are willing to put their lives on the line to keep us all free! Have a GREAT day! 3. Gerri, Please don't think that way. It's not true. You're a very good researcher and I have learned a lot from you. The East Fork of Obey River makes a loooong trip across Fentress County, and there were BEATYS scattered all along the way. Gerri, I would be glad to take you to some of the places where there were Beatys living before and after Fentress County was formed in 1823. Tommie and I always enjoy being with you. Let me know sometime when you plan to be in the area and have a couple of hours to ride around.
