Hi, Millie, I don't really know what got me started unless it was that no one seemed to know much about my Dad's ancestry and that seemed strange to me - I was about 17 at the time. I guess I was just born with lots of questions? Or nosy? Whichever. But I have been continuing to try finding answers through the years, and sharing with others of my lines. I am continually amazed at the generosity of folks who share their findings, like you, Millie. And many others - couldn't name all of you. But you all deserve a great spot in Heaven for being the people you are! Thank you to everyone who has exhibited your generous spirit while continuing this fascinating pursuit! I am currently working on my Rich and Angel/Angely/Angelea lines. Have any of you recently found anything new on the Angellys or the Riches? There appears to be at least three Thomas Riches early on in Fentress Co. I just walked around the perimeter of our property (in boots) and it was great to get outside again after our very snowy and cold winter here in Indiana. Everyone thinks we will have an early spring - sounds good to me. Helen

I have been interested in my family's history for several years and, unfortuntately, the keeper of all the stories passed away a few years ago. Sadly, I paid little attention to those stories when I was younger. Perhaps hitting 50 last year has made the past more important to me. Additionally, I am 4th cousin to Cordell Hull, my father (Charles Bridges, raised by Maudie Bell [Hull] & Edward Tompkins) met Sgt. Alvin York when he (my dad) was a kid. My father was born in Armathwaite and the family burial ground is at Fellowship Baptist Church there. I have also learned that one of my ancestors came over from England and brought with him (I can't remember right now which ancestor) the light fixtures that are now in the church in Rugby, TN. I found this of particular interest because my husband and I visited there in 2009! Some of that land was purchased from my ancestors also! So ... I have a history with the Armathwaite, Jamestown, Allardt, Pall Mall areas. In fact, my father told me that either his grandfather Edward Tompkins or someone in our family was once the sheriff of Jamestown. My dream now is to someday retire in Tennessee, if not in the actual Smokey Mountains area, then perhaps in Fentress County. Now I know why my aunt Marjorie (Tompkins) Ellis always lovingly called it "down home." Even though I never lived there (yet), it is home to me. Lori J. Hi, Jo, Yes, Simon Groce, the grandson, is a name that I am familiar with. Can't recollect right off anything about Simon II but I have heard of him and may have some info, though I doubt it would be much. It's been a very long time since I worked on that line. Helen
Hi, Jo. Yes, my grandmother Celia, daughter of John Groce, married James Henry Voiles first, and George Dewey Roysden second, after Grandpa Jim died. Helen
I don't believe that I knew that Simon II settled in the counties you mentioned. I just knew of the Clinton County ones. Helen
Thanks for answering, Jo! My line is through John, I believe. Some of his descendants still live there in Clinton County, KY. My grandmother Celia Groce was his daughter. Haven't looked at my information for a very long time. Helen
Helen, To my knowledge, Simon II never made it to Kentucky. His grandson Simon Gross b. 7-9-1798 in Salisbury, Surrey County, NC, son of Simon Peter Gross b. abt 1770, migrated from North Carolina to Cumberland County, KY & then to Breathitt County, Ky. > To: tnfentre@rootsweb.com > From: helend1939@aol.com > Date: Fri, 4 Feb 2011 14:10:37 -0500 > Subject: [TNFENTRE] Groce/Gross > > I don't believe that I knew that Simon II settled in the counties you mentioned. Hey Jo, My first visit to Berlin was shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall. I've been back a few times on business. Frankfurt I've visited a few times, but mostly enroute to the international airport. Have never been to Stuttgart (yet). I came to Europe to study at the American University in Paris, France, And ended up staying. Have lived and/or worked in London, GB; Paris, FR; Sardinia, IT; Naarden (near Amsterdam) Holland, and island of Crete, Greece and Gelsenkirchen & Cologne Germany. I speak German fluently, French fairly, Dutch basics, and a little modern greek.
