    3. Hi, I wish I could say, yes, but I live in Wichita, KS The SMITH that I have as an ancestor, was Creacy Smith (born May 4th, 1876 and died August 9th, 1956) who married Otha Jouett ARNEY. I have been unable to find anything about her family, mainly because it's hard to determine what her name actually was. In the US Federal Census, different years, her first name was noted as Nancy, Lucy, and Cresy. I have been told, that when she was born, she had five aunts, and her parents didn't want to hurt any of them, so they gave her all five aunts names, as her "first name". I can't tell you, what those 5 names were, because I don't know. Finding the answer, would help me to find out more about her family. Good luck at the get together, whom ever is blessed enough to go. Take care and God bless, Stan On Fri, Mar 18, 2011 at 9:44 AM, edrogenglish@juno.com < edrogenglish@juno.com> wrote: > Would anyone be interested in a Smith Family Get Together over the Memorial > Day Weekend at the Calvin Burton Smith Cemetery in southeast Fentress Co > TN.? 3. MUNCIE - David A. Upchurch, Ph.D., 63, assistant professor at Ball State University, died March 9, 2011 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Mary Clark-Upchurch; sons, Seth (25) and Nicholas (21), and daughter, Sarah (22). David was born June 21, 1947, the son of Walter and Flossie Upchurch. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gary. David received his doctorate in British Literature from Ball State University in 1989 and received his bachelor's degree from Depauw University in 1969. He was a 1965 graduate of Cadiz School, near New Castle, where he grew up. David taught in the Ball State University Department of English for nineteen years, where he was able to do what he loved best, work with students. In 1989 David published his book Wilde's Use of Irish Celtic Elements in The Picture of Dorian Gray, which evolved from his dissertation. Anna Priebe, Ph.D., a friend and colleague, said of David, "He was such a lovely, lovely man--I really enjoyed his humor, kindness, and wry smile." His son Nick said, "I loved my father. He was a brilliant man with a rapier wit, and a delightfully sarcastic sense of humor." Calling hours are 3:30-4:30 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2011 at Grace Episcopal Church, service following at 4:30 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted with Elm Ridge Funeral Home. Memorials should be given to Alzheimer's Association. Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy sh** - what a ride!"

    3. This message is for Bruce.  I haven't been on here for a long time. So I am  a little out of it doing any searching.  I was reading up on the McGinnis line and saw you had gotten further.   I come from Paul McGinnis, Ovid, , Lyles Homer, Will Alfred, and last Green Berry McGinnis. I am wondering if you have been able to get all the way to how we connect to Ireland.  I had William McGinnis/Melinda Conley, and then John McGinnis /(wife) Hamilton? This John McGinnis was born in 1748 in Dublin, Ireland. Is this right or did I get something mixed up. Thanks, Lisa

    3. Hi Tammy and All:  Louella Johnson appears to be the daughter of Noah H. Johnson.  He had two daughters:  Malinda and Malissa.  One of them whose middle name was Louella  married Center Mack York.  The other whose middle name was Louise married Pleasant Franklin.  The problem seems to be that they both became known as Malissa.  My impression, even though Center York's WWI registration gave her name as Malisa, is that Louella was actually Malinda.  Please see the document below:     Descendants of Noah H. She was buried in 1949 in Taylor Place Cemetery, , Fentress, Tennessee.   First given name comes from husbands WW I draft registration.  He said closest living relative was Malisa Loueller York. Fentress Co, TN Cemetery Book for Taylor Place Cemetery gave birthdate as 1870. Cemetery Records Fentress County, TN, pg. 344, says b. 6 Aug 1896. Name may be M. Louella Johnson.  A Mrs. M.L. York was bondsman for Nanie Alma York when she md Tom Copeland 29 May 1933. Have seen her surname as Johnson and Hogue. Have heard that she is daughter of Milburn Hoge, but she does not show in 1880 census with his widow. Brenda -- BrenINVa@aol.com -- I have her name as "Louella Johnson". Why I have that maiden name is because in the Jennings Funeral Home record book (2/1973-12/1983), there is the death record for James Clura York (born 2/18/1899, died 6/15/1981) and his father is listed as Center York and his mother as LOUELLA JOHNSON. James Clura York's wife, Winnie Smith York provided this information (funeral was charged to her). Since James Clura York had a daughter named Melissa, his mother's name probably was Melissa Louella Johnson or Louella Melissa Johnson. I know some census records her name is shown as Louella M., more than likely her name was Melissa Louella, and she went by Louella. I don't know yet who her parents were, but I'll try to search for both Melissa and Louella Johnson's in the 1880 Census. By the way, James Clura York was first married to Dolly May Owens. Hazel Pearl York was first married to Bruce Peters, then Clyde Smithers, Junior Bruce York -- Louella Johnson more correctly seems to be Malinda Louella and her sister is Malissa Louise.  However, the first names could be reversed, i.e. Malissa Louella and Malinda Louise.  Confusing???   Malinda married Center McThomas York  "Center Mack or C.M." son of William Mitchell York and Elizabeth Hogue on 20 Oct 1895 in , Fentress, Tennessee. Center was born on 25 Jan 1876 in Boatland, Fentress, Tennessee. He died on 5 Dec 1918 in Glenoby, Fentress, Tennessee. He was buried about 7 Dec 1918 in Bill's Creek Cemetery, Bill's Creek, Fentress, Tennessee.   1880 Fentress Co, TN census age 4 w/brother Samuel & mother Elizabeth. Marriage announcement -- Miss Luella Johnson and Center York were married 20 Oct 1895; Glenobey, 28 Oct 1895. 1900 Fentress Co, TN census Center York 24 TN 1876 Jan m Dist 6 #186 w/mother Elizabeth. Gene Conley Owens -- I took my grandmother York to John William's funeral 13 Mar 1961.  He died in St. Louis, MO and he was brought back to be buried in the Taylor Cemetery in Jamestown, TN.  The Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the service.  The reason I remember this so well is a Baptist preacher preached his funeral and at the end of the funeral service he made an alter call.  First time I had ever seen that.  I kept thinking, "What if two or three people answered his call to the alter and got down?  What wold then happen to John William's body?"  Would the ever get around to taking him to the cemetery to be buried?  I asked Marion Freeman, owner of the funeral home, those questions and he said "good questions."  And that is the end of my story.                               1920                      1930 John W.
