Hi Gary I went to my local genealogy library in Macon, GA last week. They had your book 'Fentress Footsteps'. I must say I am very impressed. I recommend it to others now. I wish I could talk the library into stocking more of your books. I think that was the cemetery that I found destroyed. In the past few years the ground was dozed and supposedly cleaned off. I ask the local inhabitants about the graves and they said the cemetery had bee destroyed. However, I did do a GPS plot on it for future reference. Gary D. Hi.... I just wondered if anyone might have any reference listed for the "Elijah Buck Cemetery" in Fentress County. I haven't found much about it, but came upon the reference quoted below, and thought someone subscribing to this list may have some additional knowledge about it. I haven't seen this cemetery listed in any of the Fentress County cemetery books that I've seen, but perhaps I just haven't looked in the right place yet..... This cemetery is supposed to have been located in the Banner Springs/Roslin area. I haven't been able to find any reference to it in any of the cemetery books I've found for that area, but I believe that at least one of my relatives (Elijah Buck) may have been buried there.... Here is a copy of the reference I found at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~bp2000/fentress/t13.htm "There are seven cemeteries in the Banner-Roslin area. The Elijah Buck Cemetery, located at the old Elijah Buck Place below Baxter Wilson's Dairy Barn, is the oldest. The others are Mt. It is seldom to see my Pennycuff surname in a query so I must weigh in with my information. I have done extensive research on the Pennycuff (Penticuff, etc) family. Regarding Elizabeth Pennycuff, (born about 1805 probably in Wayne Co., KY) wife of Jacob Samuel Reagan, her parents were Johannes Pennycuff AKA John Bennikof and Jane Smith who were married Dec 14, 1798 in Greene County, TN. The father of Johannes was Johan Phillip Benninghoff and that is the last generation where the original German form of the name appears. I have the Benninghoff family tree to about 1614 in Germany. From about 1770 to 1807, the Benninghoff family was migrating from Philadelphia to Frederick Co., MD, thru the Shenandoah valley of VA, into eastern TN, thru the Cumberland gap into Wayne County, KY. Johannes was born Jun 23, 1772 in Middletown, MD. The name became Anglicized especially during the years they were slowing moving thru VA. Johannes and Jane had 10 children, about half of whom were born in Wayne Co, and the younger ones born in Overton, later Fentress Co where the family settled by 1814. By 1800, the spelling was exclusively Pennycuff and remained so until the form Penticuff began to appear in the Civil War era. I have about 6 pages on the descendants of Elizabeth and Jacob Samuel Reagan. I would like to have more as I am trying to create a full list of descendants of any Pennycuff. There was only one immigrant family and all Pennycuffs, however spelled or misspelled are related. I hope this helps. John Pennycuff Cincinnati
Sorry to you who are looking at Reagans. I got the wrong spouse for Susannah Reagan. She was the daughter of John Reagan and she married Thomas Marion Owen. The next generation married into the Wrights. Samuel Wright Sr. married Celia (Celina) Smith. Sarah

Justine, I am not related directly to the Pennycuff family. I am a descendent frome Peter Reagan Jr. to John Reagan to Susannah Reagan who married Samuel Wright. Sarah
Jo, I would be interested in your John Lindsey Wright. I do not have him in my information. It does seem that the Lindsey part might be the same family. Maybe I just don't have the middle name for a John that I have in the group. Do you have anything on the Ritchie part of the family? Sarah
Sarah, I saw your post and was wondering if you are descended from a Pennycuff. Thanks. Sarah, I hit the send button before I was finished. I meant to say that I was checking on Lindsey because I descend from Matthew and Elizabeth through John Lindsey Wright. JW, I have the census but they are in storage, will try to get them this week. So am trying from memory Peter Sr. is the one listed with just his wife in 1820 census, he died 1828 this is Jacob Samuel's grandfather. In the census you are talking about is listed Peter and his sons, Joel was b. abt. 1774 which would put him at approx. 50 yrs of age, this is J. Samuel's father and Joel died before 1830 leaving his wife and children showing for that census in Fentress. Think it is in the 1830 census there is also a Larkin listed he is believed to be the brother of Samuel, have not found where he went to. All 4 of Peter Srs. sons moved to TN, even William was supposed to have come there after 1820 as he is still listed in Wilkes Co. NC for that year. I have a lot of information and copies of land records etc. for NC if you will let me know exactly what you need will be glad to share if I have it. Have a great day! Pat
Jo, Is Matthew Wright married to Elizabeth Lindsey or Elizabeth Lindley? The Lindsey daughters of Joseph are listed in the estate inventory. Abstracts of Warren Co, NC Will Book 7: 203--Will of Joseph Lindsey, 5 March, 1793; Nov, CT. 1794. Names: Wife Rachael; Sons Laban and Caleb (Extr); Daughters: Rebecca Ragan, Mary Hartgrove Searcy, Zellah Ragan, Milly Thurman, Darkas Lindsey, Sarah Lindsey, and Fanny Watkins. Co)Extr. Friend Dennis Paschal. Wit: Anderson Paschall (Jurat), Mary Paschall, and Dennis Paschall (Jurat). I am also a descendent of the Wrights--Matthew's brother David. If you can find anything earlier than Matthew and Elizabeth's marriage, I would love to know. All I have is from somewhere in MD or VA. Thanks, Sarah
My assumption has been that the two Peter Reagans listed in Overton Co in 1820 are father and son. Both came from Rowan (later Surry, later Wilkes Co, NC) and before that Peter Sr. was in Bute (later Warren Co, NC). Peter Sr. was married to Rebecka Lindsey (the will of Joseph Lindsey of Warren Co seems to make this fact clear) and they both would have been over 45 as the census suggests with no children in 1820. Peter Jr. would have been the one with children. His wife was Nancy Cauthon (her family was in Bute Co, NC). The problem I have had is in sorting the NC relatives of these two. The names are in common and common--Charles, James, John, etc. I haven't found anything yet that makes clear who is connected to whom. There are deeds in the Wilkes Co, NC deed books between some of these. It looks like Peter Reagan (Regan or Ragan for those that stayed in NC it looks like) sold some land to sons or brothers or cousins in order to prepare for his trip to TN. His son Peter went with him but I don't know if others did. Has anyone tracked the Reagans clearly through Rowan Co? The book The Lineage of Amos Ragan is about one family group in Rowan and the supposition is that they were related to Peter Reagan. And most of the names are similar. Some clearly stayed in NC, but some combination went to TN in the early 1800s. Any help out there? Thanks, Sarah
Fabian, Thank you for forwarding the web site on Samel Reagan and his ancestors and decendants... Very helpful! JW Garrett
Pat, Looking at the 1820 Overton Co census, there are two Peter Reagans the same age range - b. bef 1775. Is Samuels grandfather the Peter with 4 males of pg 261 or the Peter with no male children of pg 260? And is Samuels father the Joel Reagan of pg 263? Problem with this Joel is that he is also b. bef 1775 and with no wife. Am I looking at the right father and grandfather of Sameul Reagan? Anyone have a copy of 1830 and 1840 census info on Peter, Joel, and Samuel Reagan HH'ds? Thanks for everyones help! JW Garrett
