    2. Houston's news is online at KHOU.com - lots of coverage. Baytown did have power outages for awhile. My son is an aerospace engineer at NASA and come from south of that area - left 10pm Wed for the 5 hour drive to Dallas - arrived 8am Friday!!! He is not returning until Wednesday as there are 'staggered' return days and their area is last - except for Beaumont which may be several days later. 2. thanks... we seem to have come through with a minimum of problems in this area... enough rain to give this dry parched ground a good soaking... and the wind has blown in some nice 80 degree weather after weeks and weeks of 100+ days... some limbs and debris to clear up out of the yard, but I am thankful... have friends who may not have been so fortunate in South Louisiana, near where the eye made landfall but won't know for a couple of days how they fared... they can't get in for at least 48 hours. thanks to all for the prayers and good thoughts... the people of Louisiana and Texas and the entire gulf coast area are very appreciative these days. 3. Dave, I realized that I didn't say whom I think Alex was named for, did I? I THINK that he was named for Alexander McFarland. I THINK he was James C.'s father. Alexander McFarland was born about 1750 in Virginia. He left a will naming a James C. McFarland as a son. I don't have a copy of the will and can't find it at Ancestry.com. Alexander is said to have been a Captain in the Revolution. He later went to Conway County, Arkansas where he died in 1812. 3. Dave, I can only "suppose" where Alexander Miller got his name. His parents were Wesley McFarland and Elizabeth Akins/Atkins/Atkinson. From what I have gathered Richard C. was Richard Crabtree McFarland, most of it from Betty Reed He and Wesley were half brothers. Their father was James C. McFarland. (have no real clue as to what the C. was) Wesley's mother was Rebecca/Caroline Rule and Richard's mother was Pricilla Mullinex (sp) Pritchard. For some reason or the other Richard was reared by a couple whose surname was Atkinson. I don't know for sure if they were related to Elizabeth or not. Richard Crabtree was born abt. 1838 and married (1) Mary (Marylou/Maryline) Walker. They had 5 children that has been reported. James Mcfarland 1858 George Wesley Mcfarland September 29, 1860 Miller Atkinson Mcfarland January 04, 1863 Thomas R Mcfarland 1864 (2) Delilah Caroline Law Their children were Henry Bentley Mcfarland May 09, 1870 Jane Mcfarland Abt. 1872 Tolbert Wheeler Mcfarland Bet. June 18, 1873 - March 1875 Andrew Jackson Mcfarland Abt. 1876 Noah Mcfarland Abt. 1878 Miranda Adeline Mcfarland September 15, 1881 Grover Cleveland Mcfarland December 04, 1884 and an eighth child that hasn't been named. (3) Catherine A Or Kathleen Henson Curtis Their children were Edward William Mcfarland March 10, 1897 Lowery Fintus MCFARLAND June 14, 1898 (Betty's line) Virginia Mae Mcfarland November 1899 Etta E Mcfarland Richard Clay Mcfarland October 09, 1904 If you can contact Betty Reed she could help you more. 3. Hi, Yes we are very concerned. The storm seems to have missed all but one of my people. And I know of no way of finding out about her. She is my aunt, Gracie McFarland Hedricks, she turned 94 in July and lives in Baytown in her own home. Gracie is the grand daughter of Alexander Miller McFarland and Susannah Caroline Wood. Both were born in Fentress County in the 1840's. The area of Texas that they settled after their children were born is in East Texas , Tyler area, and that isn't far from Lufkin or Shreveport. If any of our Fentress Family hears or knows what is actually going on in the Baytown area could you let us know? I live in Florida.
