Thanks so much! Any Carney info is immensely appreciated. Does anyone on the list have any information about the Poor House in Fentress? Several of the Carney children were orphaned and lived at the poor house. We have names of the children, but we don't know who the parents were: Jacob Edward Carney Andy Carney Sam R. Carney William H. Carney (there may have been 2 William H's.) I see that Anna Carney named her son William Henry Viles. Maybe after a child with that name that died?? Sincere Thanks Tonya
I'm researching the Carney family from Fentress county. Since their name was misspelled so many ways, I was wondering if these two families could be one and the same. Or is this a completely different surname. Any thoughts? Sincere thanks Tonya Carney Archey http://www.wku.edu/~tonya.archey/
Hi all. I am in search of other CORCELIUS (Not sure of the spelling) researchers in Fentress Co., TN and Clinton Co., KY. I am particularly interested in an Elizabeth CORCELIUS who was born abt 1827/28 in TN. She married James M. BRANHAM abt. 1851. Their three children were born in Clinton Co., KY. Three children were born to them..... George W. BRANHAM 1853 Nancy Jane BRANHAM 1855 Frances E. BRANHAM 1859 James and Elizabeth (with their family) are located in Clinton Co. on the census records through 1870. James apparently dies between 1870 and 1880. Elizabeth appears with her son, George W. BRANHAM on the 1880 census in Clinton Co. I am hoping to learn when Elizabeth died. Elizabeth was the d/o George and Ruth CORCELIUS. Rex W. Bertram 132 S. To our sister societies: Please send this email to your members, if possible. The Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society has several announcements for you this month! Please join us Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. (PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE) at the Edmondson Pike Branch of the Public Library, 5501 Edmondson Pike, Nashville, TN. Our speaker is Dr. Carole Bucy, professor of History at Volunteer State Community College. She will discuss her own experiences exploring her family history and her husband's, locating these families in the broader story of Tennessee and American history, including the Coal Miners Wars in East Tennessee and the Panic of 1893. The title of her talk is: "Historian Becomes a Genealogist: Putting a Face and Feelings on Facts" We look forward to seeing you. ******************************************* This past month I received the following email which I think will be of interest to our members: The Nashville Public Library is pleased to announce the acquisition of HeritageQuest Online, including remote access! We believe that this resource will be very useful to genealogists at all levels of expertise, whether they are working in the Nashville Room downtown, at the branches, or from their homes (remote access is available to all library card holders). HeritageQuest Online includes: * all of the images, and extensive indexing, from the 1790 - 1930 U.S. federal censuses * more than 20,000 book titles, including nearly 8,000 family histories and over 12,000 local histories * more than 250 primary-source documents, such as tax lists, city directories, probate records, and more * the Periodical Source Index (PERSI), which covers more than 6,300 genealogy and history periodicals written in English and French (Canada) since 1800 * the Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application Files, which identifies more than 80,000 American military, naval, and marine officers and enlisted men * the forthcoming Freedman's Bank Records, a database that documents more than 70,000 bank depositors and their dependants and heirs. The Freedman's Bank Records is considered one of the most important resources for African-American genealogical research. You can access the database at any Nashville Public Library Branch, or you can access it in the comfort of your own home with your NPL library card. Please go to our Online Resources at http://www.library.nashville.org/Links/onlineresources.htm and click on the HeritageQuest Online link. If you are accessing the database from home, you will be prompted for your name and the barcode from your library card. You will also be prompted to create a PIN number.
