Bev, I have an Austin Choate born c1795 in Virginia married to an Elizabeth born c1801 in Virginia. They have seven children of which the oldest is Jacob born 1826 in Tennessee. All info I have is from census records. Would this be the family below that you are writing about? Frank Brown Kansas City I have Jacob Choate and Mary Ledbetter as having 9 children. Jacob was the s/o George Choate and Malinda Farrell. George Choate was the s/o Austin Choate and Elizabeth "Betsy" Young..............if I have anything that you are interested in, please let me know and I will share whatever I have. Bev Casey
Bev - I have a copy of the George Guthery Bible family pages and the information there is that Elizabeth GUTHERY married Austin Shoats/Choate on May 29, 1817. I am descended from Elizabeth's sister, Jane, who married Israel Mullinix. Yes Max..........I still have the notes you sent me: Joshua Foster Wright married Sarah Lamar 1803 in NC, came to Overton & Fentress area with Means family. Abigail Wright, dau of J.F. & Sarah married Pleasant Howard and lived in Morgan, Cumberland and Overton Counties. Not sure they moved or county lines moved. Pleasant was killed after the Civil War by persons unknown and date unknown. Nice to know you're still out there, watching!!!! Bev

My Choates came from Fentress and is intertwined with the Conatsers, Wrights, etc. etc. etc. My maternal grandmother lived in Fentress Co., until about 1903 when her father Edward Russell "Russ" Choate and her mother Margaret Elizabeth Conatser followed several of their sons to Tarrant Co., TX. Edward Russell Choate was the s/o Austin Bulger Choate and Mary Ann "Polly" Barnes. Margaret E. Conatser was the d/o John Conatser and Elizabeth Ellen Wright................... I have scads of notes, as well as another Choate cousin Dave Atkinson.......we both live in OK. Am always willing to share whatever data I have, cause I don't throw anything away.........Choate probably isn't mentioned much anymore, a lot of research has been done on that line, north and south branches, but I know that a lot of the newer generations need to be updated. For all I know we may be 2nd or 3rd cousins but the accent of most researches is for the earliest dates possible, and us later born cousins, sometimes get lost in the shuffle. I do not have a Casper Choate and would love to know that family. I have so many John Choates in my database I'll need a birthdate to see what I have on him; I have two Margaret Wrights but don't know that I have that much on either one of them.
Wilma, Thanks for the story. I'm going to hang on to it, if it's okay. May help pinpoint the location of that mill someday. Willie, Thank you for letting me know about the Round-up. I have never seen a re-enactment of the Civil War, that would be a highlight for me. I bet the cannons were heard for miles. Will be nice to see the pictures. Again, thank you for your kindness. Thanks, Willie...I would love to come but with thiscrazy weather in Clevelandya never know if there will be a snowstorm...Last year the last part of April we had an awful snow storm. Milly, Thanks for the input. I will share your suggestion (wish?) with the Historical Society next meeting. It was a good'un this year. Don't know the registration count yet, but well attended. Willie
Patty, We had a very success Roundup yesterday. There was a lot of interest in the displays related to the Civil War era in Fentress County. We hope to be able to give more advance notice about the Roundup for next year. Maybe some of you who don't live nearby will be able to plan so that you can attend. It's always a wonderful time for connecting with email buddies and geneology cousins from far and near. Thanks for asking about it. I think we will be putting some of the photos online when the dust has settled (which is hasn't here in this house yet!). The Civil War re-enactors brought a cannon and shot it a couple of times at 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.
