    3. Brenda, It is possible the cemetery is known by some other name by now. Place names change frequently. Mabel Rushton Wheeler's book, CEMETERY RECORDS, FENTRESS COUNTY, TENN., was published in 1988. However, it listed a burial as recently as 1986, of a person named Orpha R. Clark Kingston. There were 42 legible graves and many more graves, so it is fairly large. Ms. Wheeler's book says it is located in the south section of the Riverton quadrangle in the Boatland Community, on the west side of the road between West Fentress and Bill's Creek. Ms. Wheeler may still be listed in the telephone directory for Jamestown, TN. Also, I think Gary Norris lives in Clinton Co., KY, in or near Albany. You might be able to contact one of them. Certainly a local funeral home director can tell you how to locate it! You might try: Jennings Funeral Home - (931) 879-8118 - 414 N Main St, Jamestown, TN 38556 Good luck! 3. Brenda, Ann Wood Cemetery is located at the end of Mill Creek Lane near Boatland. Once you take Mill Creek lane, the site can be reached by bearing left across a bridge at the house with the U.S. and Confederate flags. There is a cannon in the corner of that yard. Go about 50 yards to the two houses across from each other. Ruth Clark lives in the house on the left. You have to tell her that you want to go through her farm gate. Beside the gate is a junked John Deere tractor. Go about 50 yards up the gravel road to a log barn. The cemetery is beside the barn. The cemetery has been mown and is very neat. The coordinates of the cemetery are 36º 24'06" North and 85º 03'02" West. Gary D. 3. Brenda, The History of Fentress County book, published 1986, page 208, says: "Ann Albertson Wood Cemetery. One and one-half miles west of old post office on Ann Wood farm. Albertsons and Hogues buried here." On pages 203-207 there are maps showing the locations of cemeteries, some named and some not. But on page 205, the map shows two cemeteries on Boatland Road between SR 52 and Bill's Creek. My guess is that it is the one closer to Bill's Creek. Wheeler's Cemetery book, page 400 says: "Ann albertson Wood Cemetery. Located in the south section of the Riverton quadrangle in the Boatland Community, on the west side of the road between West Fentress and Bill's Creek." On page 401, "Ann Albertson Wood, Nov 13, 1855 to April 25, 1952. (wife of Adam M.). Wood, Adam Mathew, Sept 19, 1855 to April 10, 1879." Hogue's History of Fentress County, published in 1916, has a map of farms in the western end of Fentress County. Across Boatland Road from the Jeremiah Beatty farm is the J. (Jerry)Woods farm, and behind (and slightly south) of the J. Woods farm is the A. Woods farm. It looks like a road at one time went through this farm and west to the Manson Community. I've been told that there used to be a road from Boatland to Manson. Hogue says (page156) that Jerry Wood was a farmer and merchant in Boatland, and that he was postmaster for many years. Jerry Wood and his wife Jane Harmon are both buried in this cemetery. There have been at least 10 people buried int he Ann Albertson Wood Cemetery since WW II, the last person listed in the Cemetery book (published, 1988) was Orpha R. Clark Kington, in 1986. Hope this doesn't add to your confusion. Did you want those images (maps)? 3. Hi, Another good source for finding old deserted cemeteries is the county court house, I think it is planning and zoning. THey have maps with the cemeteries marked as crosses on them. They will not be named but they will be marked on the map. airials (maps from the air) can be helpful too... 2. Willie, I've been to various cemeteries on/off of Boatland Road, but this is one I'm having trouble finding. I've not been able to spot it off Mill Creek Lane, and even stopped and talked to some people who lived on Mill Creek Lane. This is when GPS coordinates would come in handy!. It's listed as being "overgrown", so it might be in the woods or in an overgrown field around there. I need to pull out Hazel Wheeler's book and see what the dates are for the last person buried there. I don't have any direct ancestors buried there, but this has just been one cemetery that I've not been able to locate. Thanks, Brenda In a message dated 5/20/2006 6:00:52 AM Eastern Standard Time, TNFENTRE-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: I was waiting to see if anyone else responded to your request re Ann ALbertson Wood Cemetery. 3. I have a couple of Robert Millers in my line. Both were from around the Oveton/Fentress/Cumberland Co lines. One is the son of Hiram and Sarah Miller Robert Miller b. 12 Nov. 1830 d. ?? He is buried in the Campground/Mt. Union Baptist Church Cemeterey....somewhere in a bunch of unmarked graves. He married Mary D. "Pode" Smith b. 27 Feb. 1831 d. 7 April 1914 She is buried in the Wilson Cemetery near Lovejoy/Cliffsprings. My grandmother told me that they buried her there near twin granddaughters because it was too muddy to transport her body to Campground. Their son Robert Miller Jr. b. 8 Nov. 1868 d. 8 April 1948 is also buried in the Wilson Cemetery. He married Liza Jane Phipps b. 15 July 1887 d. 24 June 1946 she is also buried in the Wilson Cemetery. Robert Miller Jr. had a first cousin also named Robert Miller who married one of Liza Jane Phipps' sister, Taulty Elizabeth. So Ben and Martha Phipps, their parents, had two Robert Millers that were their son in laws. Join Maury County Historian Bob Duncan as his band of frontier Tennessee farmboys-turned-sailor-and-navigator float their "flatboats" on winter flood waters swiftly by river pirates to Natchez, and trade their surplus farm produce for hard cash. After a brief respite at that "Gomorrah on the Mississippi," Natchez-under-the-hill, trudge homeward with them over the dark, lonely and often deadly Natchez Trace. Based on his research and popularly acclaimed columns in the Columbia Daily Herald, Duncan unfolds this adventure in early commercial traffic, establishment of a pioneer market, and access to hard currency, all so crucial to the early growth and maturity of Tennessee communities. We look forward to seeing you. Katheryne Cowan, MTGS Webmaster
