Nathaniel Hossey (Halsey) lived in Wayne Co KY, and also in Fentress Co in the old 12th District just east of the Old Barger Church. He died early around 1840, and his land became known as the 'WIDOW HOSSEY PLACE'. The land consisted of app. 200ac. They very could have lived in the rotten fork area also, as they were never enumerated in a fc census. Fabian I errored ....I wrote BRUMETT..it should have been BURNETT.. I think. I can't find a husband for NANCY CRABTREE. She is listed in Fentress Co 1900 as single. Has her having 11 children with 7 living. In her household was 4 children and her mother DORCAS CRABTREE. So if she married a BURNETT it would have been after 1900. I can't find her in 1910. In 1900 CORDIE CRABTREE was living with a WILLIAMS family. Does anyone know who Nancy married by the name Burnett? I have a picture I believe of my Aunt OCIA DELK and CARL SMITH's wedding. In it is CORD and NANCY. I was always scared of CORD. She was known to have a mental problem in her later years. She wandered all around Rotten's Fork. Uncle Carl said she tried to stab him as he slept. Milly WARD Piros My Mind is Like Lightning.... One Brilliant Flash and It's Gone.......

Helen and list, Is there any proof that Squire Angels' first name was Thomas? Does anyone have any documentation or proof of this? Going through the Overton/Fentress Co. records I only find the name "Squire" Angelea/Angle/Angel/Angla/Angely between yrs 1822 and 1850. Ann, Sure is a possibility since Squire Angel of Overton/Fentress was from NC. There were other who came to TN: A John Angel md to Polly Shaver, both in SumnerCo TN. A Martin Angel in 1811 Carter Co., TN. Right now, since there is a possibility that Squire Angel may have went to Ky from NC before migrating on to TN, I am looking at a James Angel from NC who went to Clay Co., KY. He had a son, Absolum b. abt 1796. (Squie Angel had a son Absolum). James had another son, James Jr who had a son Squire Angel b. 1835 Clay Co., KY. I dont have the info. on James other possible children/sons. I wonder if this James from NC had a son Squire Angel, possibly our Squire Angel b.1798/99 NC. Any thoughts/comments? Helen, Can you remember the area where Robbie Crisp told you the markers were suppose to be? I remember an old Silo made of large stone near an old farm house in a big field. Is that the general area? Thanks JW Garrett -----Original Message----- From: HelenD1939@aol.com Sent: Mon, 12 Jun 2006 16:27:17 -0700 To: TNFENTRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [TNFENTRE-L] Angel family You know, there may not be any markers! I've never been back there although Robbie and his brother both told me where it was. Mom and I used to visit cemeteries - way back before we had the Internet - but some were so far out that we were afraid to go there because of snakes. I'm amazed how well kept those country cemeteries are. I don't remember that Robbie said there were markers. In fact, I believe he said there weren't any. And do you know where Robbie lived? It's been many years since I was there. It was out in a field behind his house, I believe. helen

I have Elizabeth Reagan (b. 1805) married to Joshua Storie. Is this the same line? This Elizabeth Reagan was the daughter of Peter Reagan Jr. They came from NC and lived in Wilkes Co for a little while before ending up in Overton/Fentress.
Sue, this link in Bruce York's collection of genealogy gives these as parents of Mary Polly Storie:Father: _Joshua Storie Senior_ (http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=bruceyork&id=I7477) b: 1768 in , , North Carolina Mother: _Catherine Lewis_ (http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=bruceyork&id=I11776) b: 1774/1780 in , Wilkes, North Carolina _http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=bruceyork&id=I21279_ (http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=bruceyork&id=I21279) I don't know if this is correct. Could someone tell me who Mary Polly Storie's mother was? Thanks, sue
I hope this is apropos! Since my Voiles family lived in Fentress Co. for a number of years, I think it might qualify. There is a Vowell mountain in Anderson Co., TN, but not named for my Voiles I'm pretty sure. Although Vowell is sometimes a spelling of the name. It is somewhere in the vicinity of Briceville and the coal mines in that county. And until recently I never knew that it took my Voiles family several years to came through the Anderson Co area on their way to Fentress Co.. Helen

Anna, Maybe Willie and Gary could collabrate and put a book together on the Mountains Named For People, past and present with some of those beautiful scenic pictures. Those roads named after families would be interesting also, with one of those maps with names and grid numbers corresponding like in Gary's Overton County Roll Call book. Sure would be helpful in finding one's way around. I'd be waitin' to buy a copy. When I am down there and ask of my families, they always mention, oh they lived on such and such a mountain. It does help in finding cemeteries, old homesteads, etc. Here also, when someone new moves in, it is always referred to as them living on the old (whom ever owned the place) homestead. We didn't have road names in the country for years, just routes. So when an old homestead is mentioned we always knew where to fine ya.
