    1. Caleb Reagan
    2. Hi JW, How much information do you have on Caleb? His descendants sent me some, and thought it might be helpful to you. Especially if you feel he might have been Joel's son instead of Peter's. And if your right then Peter also has a son that is not accounted for. Some researcher's think Wm. "Billy" Reagan was Wm's son and not Peter's, not sure I agree as Wm. was still in Wilkes Co. NC in the 1820 census and Billy was born in 1811 census shows he was born in TN which contradicts that our Reagan's came in 1818 just as the Sevier Cert. shows that Peter was in TN in 1813. Could Billy have been Joel's son? Pat

    2. Linda Would you like the birth records too, if so I will copy them, but I'm not comfortable with putting them on line, I've had people jump me over some records, and I do not want to hurt anyone feeling. With the birth records I would share with you and one or two other people. Hope everything is fine with you, kindy sticky here today. Wilma

    3. Hi Wilma, I think you are doing a fantastic service for us researchers. If anyone jumps you, you probably need to remind them that birth and death records are a matter of public record, and this is a forum for that type of info. Keep up the great work. 1. Re: [TNFENTRE-L] Caleb Reagan
    2. Hi JW, No I can not tell you for sure that Caleb was the son of Peter & Nancy. Know the census was wrong and that sometimes they were only 3 or 4 years older in 10 years (grin). Most researchers have Caleb as Peter Jrs. son even 20 years ago my daughter had a professional researcher checking and he came back that Caleb was b. in 1799 and was the son of Peter. Just assumed since they seemed to be very honest people that they gave their correct age as Peter, Wm. John and the others had. The only one that I saw was different was Elizabeth and that was in her later years. Have not found Caleb in the 1850 census as of yet, so could not compare. I have also seen Joel as married to Nancy Gwinn, but in the census it show Rachel. And have to assume that is Joel's widow. We are not sure if Peter had more children as he is not in the 1800 or 1810 census for TN or NC, that is unless I have missed it. Like you have always put Caleb's birth year as 1801 and I am open to any suggestion to find out the facts the best we can. Sure would be nice if we could find some wills for our family. I will go back into the census records and see if I have overlooked anything. Only tried 2 different spellings so will try some others maybe we will get lucky. Pat

    2. james garrett
    3. Pat & Sarah In regards to your Caleb Reagan being born 1799 according to 1860 census. I have many, many times came across such discrepancies. Many time their ages were recorded incorrectly for whatever reason. If Calab was the s/o Peter an Sarah md Nov 1800, Caleb was more likely born 1801. Need to look at 1850 census for Caleb and see what his age is listed as. This is how I determine a birth date, to look at the census' and note their ages, and instead of being different by 10 yrs as each census is taken every ten yrs, I have found age diferences as much as 3-4 ys. So, first I would look at other census dates and note his recorded age. Also, just wondering, Is your Caleb Reagan definitely s/o Peter Reagn Jr.? Any real documentation for it? Reason why I ask, is that my Joel Ragan has one son unaccounted for b. 1802-1804. The only sons I have for my Joel Reagan are: Son b. 1802-04 Joel b. bet 1801-1810 Jacob Samuel b. abt 1810 Larkin b. bet 1810 & 1820 Thomas b. 1822 Can you or anyone on the list provide additional info on the children of Joel Reagan md to Rachel/Nancy Gwenn? Would help if I had the actual birth dates of is children. I know he had at least 4 daughters according to census', but I have yet to identify them. 1. Southern Claims Commission Info
    2. This may be interesting to someone who is looking for additional information about their families affected by the Civil War. I have gone through the index and found those from Fentress County who applied (all were barred or disallowed). Evidently, the TN State Archives has detailed records of those barred or disallowed -- "Each claimant was required to describe his losses in detail, and to prove his loyalty to the Union. Witnesses gave testimony in support of his allegations. The paperwork in the files is often extensive." See the following website to search for names at the index: _http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/sccintro.htm_ (http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/sccintro.htm) Those I found who applied from Fentress County are: Beatty, Susan Brannon, Joseph J. Crockett, James B. England, John Graham, David Hurst, Robert Pile, Wm., Sr. Stewart, Robert To e-mail the TN State archives about any of those listed above and the price for the records, email the following: _reference.tsla@state.tn.us_ (mailto:reference.tsla@state.tn.us) ---------------- From the TN website (_http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/sccintro.htm_ (http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/sccintro.htm) ) is the following information: This index lists Tennesseans who filed claims with the Southern Claims Commission from 1871 to 1873. These 3,929 Tennesseans claimed their property had been taken by United States military personnel for use in the Civil War. The claim files include interesting detail about people and about the Civil War period in Tennessee. Each claimant was required to describe his losses in detail, and to prove his loyalty to the Union. Witnesses gave testimony in support of his allegations. The paperwork in the files is often extensive. All of the Southern Claims Commission files are located at the National Archives, but the disallowed and barred claim files have been microfilmed and are also available at the Tennessee State Library and Archives. Allowed claim files are available only by consulting the National Archives. This index is based on volume 55 of Record Group No. 56, General Records of the Department of the Treasury, at the National Archives. It is duplicated on National Archives microcopy M-87, reel 13. The indication as to whether the claim was allowed, disallowed, or barred is based on the book Southern Loyalists in the Civil War : the Southern Claims Commission by Gary B. Mills (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1994). If you wish to order a copy of a barred or disallowed claim file, _e-mail the Tennessee State Library and Archives_ (mailto:reference.tsla@state.tn.us) and request a price quote. The cost will depend on the length of the file. Due to the number of requests received daily, we ask that you only submit one request at a time for a single record.

    2. Milly Thanks, this may open a lot of doors, never knew a question that didn't lead to three or four more questions. Wm "Panter Bill" Crabtree married a Helm the first time, and somehow or the other these Helms are supposed to go back into Abe Lincolns line. I think the one Bill married is likely a niece of these in WI. I'll touch base with the lady in Monticello, who is decendent, she may have something. Denver do you know anything about these people?
