Jim I share with ever one LOL as some how almost everyone researching in Colonial Virginia is related, My Interest in Surry County is in Several Families some being Johnson, Oliver, King, Allen and Williamson are just a few, as I am studying the early Johnson's of Colonial Virginia and in doing this one has to put back together the early CLANS of the Colonies. I descend from Col. Arthur Allen and the Williamson Connections that move onto the Byrd Creek System. The Col Arthur Allen families take the travel pattern of first Surry Co. then going into lands in Middlesex County before going to the Tuckahoe Creek Drainage System, then into Washington Co. NC ( Hawkins Co. Tn) to Williamson Co. Tn to Dickson County Tn. The Tuckahoe Drainage System is where we find my matching DNA of Michael Johnson who died 1718. who has the repeating name of Joseph Johnson in it. It is my belief that these people lived as a clan (which they did in 1600 and 1700 time era) they stayed together married together moved together and went to war together until the War between the States wiped out most of the Male Population. IN doing my Genealogy research I have found it easier to first identify the land these people lived on in doing this I do it by Stream Creek and or land mass. Then I add the people to the Land, then I add the Church Parish's and then I add the County Line changes in a time outline. I then use a travel Line on where these families went. I am currently working on the Oliver Families of Surry County, reason The Reverend Thomas Murrell from 1780-1784 lead numerous settler's to Carter's Valley in what was then Washington Co. NC which is now Hawkins Co. Tn. The first of his families Start with ON Edward Oliver about 1640-50 era buying lands from Capt. Henry Perry ( Who is also connected to the Richard Pace- Johnson research of Surry Co to Middlesex County to Byrd Creek). Capt. Henry Perry's Father William Perry re married the widow Isabela Pace. I Will to try and shorten this Wm Bird who Byrd Creek in Henrico Co. is named for, his family as they lead settlers to this water drainage system. Edward Oliver's family is one of them as William Murrell on Sellar's Run of Surry County his son is Thomas Murrell who married Elizabeth Oliver daughter of William Oliver of Surry County. This begat the line of Reverend Thomas Murrell born abt 1730 died in Dickson Co. Tn in bef 1830. My Hudson Johnson is following him since 1782 from Henry Co. Va to Carter's Valley Wshington Co. NC to Williamson Co. Tn to Stewart Co. Tn in lands that in days change to Dickson Co. Tn. And Yes the King Surname is found numerous times in this Known travel Pattern I will send you my files on Upper Chipoakes Creek for review travel Pattern of Rev. Thomas Murrell families and Surry County Johnson information.
