Just a little interesting info: We have been thinking about Tuckahoe Creek and Byrd Creek. You know they are about 30 -40 miles apart. Tuckahoe Creek crosses the Henrico County Line today while Byrd Creek (there are two actually, Big Byrd and Little Byrd) are almost wholly in Fluvanna County. The James River is very difficult to navigate up past Manakin (near Tuckahoe) It is swift and full of boulders. You can be wading along and slide in over your head and be trapped in seconds. Horses cannot cross it. This is why the Kanawha Canal was built in the 1800's. So there was no way to get from Tuckahoe to Byrd during the early 1700's except by Three Chopt Road which started out an Indian path and wound to the North of the Byrd. Thomas Jefferson's parents lived near Tuckahoe Creek, and their "summer home" was near Lickinhole Creek which is before you even get to Byrd Creek!
