    3. I am trying to identify the Samuel LOCKER that lived in Dickson County (at least 1823-1826). He did not appear in the Dickson County Census. Any info or theory would be appreciated. Samuel owned land in Dickson County and Lincoln County. Land grants received by Samuel LOCKER In Tennessee were: Date Acres County Grant # Book Page Type Jun 10, 1818 10 Lincoln 12141 0 763 General Grants Stewart's Creek Jun 10, 1818 10 Lincoln 12142 0 766 General Grants 28 Aug 1818 20 Lincoln 12415 0 764 General Grants On 22 November 1823 Samuel LOCKER of Dickson County, Tennessee sold 20 acres of land located at the headwaters of Stuarts Creek in Lincoln County, Tennessee to David Henderson. Since this land adjoined land later owned by our LOCKERS, it is likely that Samuel was the father or at least closely related. April 1824, in Dickson County, Tennessee Samuel LOCKER deeded to Willis NORSWORTHEY 50 acres proven by William W. BALDTHROP who also proved the handwriting of John J. LEWIS the other witness. John McADOO duly elected County trustee gave bond and security. October 1826, in Dickson county, Tennessee Samuel LOCKER deeded to Joseph KIMBLE 50 acres proven by Howard W. TURNER and Francis BALDTHROP. John J. LEWIS deeded to Samuel Locker 50 acres proven by William W. BALDTHROP and Willis NORSWORTHY. In Lincoln County, Tennessee Deed Book H, page 700 on 6 July 1830 a deed from Benjamin CLEMENTS, William NORRIS & Jesse B. CLEMENTS to David HENDERSON is recorded for 160 acres of land In Lincoln County on the head waters of Stewarts Creek. The land adjoined the south boundary line of a ten acre tract in the name of Samuel Lockhard and the south west corner of a 50 acre tract and the line of a 20 acre tract in the name of Asa MASSEY, and the west boundary line of a tract of land of 213 acres in the name of Hosea B. CLEMENTS, and by Phillip KOONCE's line of his 10 acre tract, and a line of a 20 acre tract in the name of David HENDERSON. It was witnessed by John BROWN and John McKINNEY, and registered on 10 January 1831. The Samuel LOCKHARD mentioned is likely this Samuel LOCKER (who would have been living in Mississippi) or one of his close relatives. The Asa MASSEY mentioned is also probably connected to the Locker family as is Phillip KOONCE. In the 1830 Lowndes County, Mississippi Census, Samuel LOCKER household is listed with (2) males 0-5 [Thomas and Andrew], (2) males 5-10 [Samuel E. and ? ], (1) male 10-15, (1) male 15-20, (1) male 45-50 [Samuel S.], (1) female 5-10 [Elizabeth], (1) female 35-40 [Frances], (1) slave 25-30, and (1) slave 100 - plus. The family of a Samuel LOCKER is listed in the 1840 Tippah County, Mississippi Census as (1) male under 5, (2) males 5-10, (2) males 10-15, and (1) male (50-60). Nearby are the families of Elijah and William LOCKER who were probably two of his older sons. In 1850 Samuel Locker's family is listed in the Missouri, Ouachtie, AR Census. Jack LOCKER learned that his family then moved to Bell County, TX, but had settled in Bosque County, Texas in time for the 1860 Census. According to the 1880 Census in Lincoln County, Tennessee, the father and mother of Mary Locker PATRICK were born in Tennessee. This disagrees with the census records for Samuel which list his birthplace as North Carolina. Ken Hereford herefordkm@home.com
