    3. Hi Joyce, I would suggest going to the library and looking for books regarding antique and vintage quilts and their care or quilt conservation and care. I know Barbar Brackman has written one book, but that was several years ago. There are several products out like Orvus, which is mild and I use it on quilts. I have been collecting quilting for about twenty years and have two old quilting from the family. Most suggest washing quilts in the bath tub and using a fine screen to help hold the weight of the quilt. Testing fabrics before hand for color fastness with a cotton swab helps too know what your are dealing with. In my experience, the old feed sacks and the thirties prints hold their color well. Using Google search engine and keywords antique quilt washing gives several good sites. If you have a local museum which has textiles, they might also have al recommendation.
