Lenora, here's what I "might" know. Martha is the great-granddaughter of Jesse and Sarah Harkleroad Bartee. Her grandfather was J.W. Bartee. Her father's 1st wife died and he was 'up in years' when he married her mother. Her mother said that Jesse's name was really John. She also said that J.W. was John William. J.W. married Lucy Bullock. Martha has the Bartee/Bullock Bible with names/dates. She also has the receipt where J.W. paid for Sarah's coffin---and as a child, she used to "help" (go with) her Dad when he cleaned the old Bullock Cemetery (Montgomery County). He showed her where Sarah is buried but there is no marker. The name "Jesse" means "son of David"---now this seems a little far-fetched but so does a lot of things!---There was a David Bartee in Montgomery County about 1806. He was excused from jury duty because he was in poor health. A David Bartee died in Montgomery County a short time after one was excused from jury duty---we haven't determined if it was the same David Bartee (yet). That Bible that Martha has----well, there is a notation and I don't have a copy of it (yet) but it mentions David, father of Jesse----and gives a date of death very close to the date we've found! There is also the possibility that Jesse had a brother named John. Martha is digging through her notes because she doesn't remember the specifics about John. I sparked her memory when I mentioned there being a John Bartee listed in the Deed Books in Overton County, TN. We know the Bartee family lived in the Montgomery/Dickson County area and are still trying to fit the pieces together. Will keep you updated as I learn more. Sandy Ellis
