Dear Sara, My experience with the Online Images at Ancestry.Com has been mixed. Overall to me they have been worth the expenditure because otherwise I would not have had any access to the census data. However, there are a couple of points that you might take to heart: (1) There are no indices that can help save time in searching for the 1850 and later censi unless you have a different source for such indices. (2) In my case, my internet access speed is very limited by the communication lines (not my modem, etc), and bringing up the images is frustratingly slow. When I can gain access to a computer/modem set up that has speedier lines, access/browsing time is great, however. (3) Ancestry.Com still has bugs in their system. I have had difficulties accessing the images on several occasions. They eventully have worked out the bugs, but my estimate is that they have had problems about 10 to 15 percent of the time I've been subscribed. The longest down time (time I couldn't access the images I wanted to view) was about 3 days. Overall, I think they are worth the fee. So....that's one man's opinion.
