Battle of Shiloh was known as the battle of Pittsburg Landing to Southerners. The battle of Sharpsburg was in Maryland and the Wilderness in either Virginia or West Virginia. Have you checked for old newspapers of that time period. If any exist, they would probably note the passing of a well-known and elected official. Just a thought.
