If everyone is bored ,they can help me find burial place of uncle Jeremiah V. Mitchell , who was lving in or near Savannah, Hardeman county(?), after the civil war in ill health.. He was Sheriff and other positons there for about twenty years after his war service...Know he was Confederate and I have his war record.. but have been unable to find where he was buried.. He was originaly from Dickson,, son of William W. Mtichell and Arabella Mitchell. Lenora p.s. Tried to find if he was buried in National Conf. Cemetery but couldnt find him.. So I assume that he was well known according to letters and was buried in or around the area noted above.

I visited Savannah early this summer. It was a beautiful and historic town located on the banks of the Tennessee River. It also played a crucial part in the civil war in the area. The largest and I think most life's lost battle in the war was the Battle Of Shiloh. Shiloh is now a preserved National landmark and the visitors center has some genealogical value information there. I believe there were several thousand soldiers that lost their lives during that battle. If your relative was there during the civil war I bet he was in the battle! Savannah is just a stones throw away. There was also a historical museum in Savannah but I don't remember the name of it that had quite a bit of historical and local information. The "Cherry Mansion" stills stands there majestically overlooking the Tennessee River as it did during the Civil War. General Grant stayed at the masnsion and had breakfast there the morning of the Battle of Shiloh started. I wonder if you called Shiloh if they could give you any information on your uncle, they may even have a web site, I don't know. Part of the old wagon road along the banks of the river was still there and is today just an area that you can walk on. I could just imagine how it must have been during the war.. Oh yes, and when I was making the tour of town it also said that there was an indian village of significant size that was located on the spot where the Cherry Mansion up until about 1800. My Dad and my sister and her children and me and my children ate lunch there at the foot of the hill between the Cherry Mansion and the river. I almost felt like I went back in time for a few minutes! Well, wish I had more info. for you!! Have a great night!
