    3. Very interesting note. I am given to understand that the "Battle of Shiloh" was the Yankee name for this bloodiest of confrontations, whereas the Rebels referenced it as the "Battle of Sharpsburg". My great grandfather was wounded in the "Battle of Sharpsburg" according to the documentation (I believe his pension records) and later more seriously wounded (lost one leg) in the "Battle of the Wilderness". Family lore according to what he told one of his sons was that he missed out on the "Battle of Gettysburg" due to contracting the measles...
