    3. Happy Halloween out there! Every Halloween all of the "Ghost" stories around town start popping up! I just thought I'd share a couple with you--- Feel free to jump in with your own comments on it! CAYBERRY HILL---- A long time ago in the late 1800's along a section of highway 49 west between Vanleer and Charlotte "Old" Dr. Bell ( who has had son's and grandsons since that are still doctors) was driving his horse and buggy on the road. A man stopped him at the bottom of the hill and asked for a ride. Dr.Bell stopped and he got on. He talked to the man for the couple of mile ride or so up the hill and around the curve. When he got to the top he stopped to let the man off, but the man was GONE! Since that time many people have said that they have seen someone trying to get a ride on that rural stretch of road. When my husband was a kid, he got out of the car and walked a stretch of the road with his cousin for a quarter. He was scared but brave and didn't see a thing! Interesting that this story has been around for so many generations! Pinnacle Point Bridge-- this is a new one on me, but some of the high school students told me that they had heard stories around town that if you stopped in the bridge in Southside after dark that a ghost would lift up your vehicle. I'll just pass on checking that out! Train Light in Burns--- I don't know where exactly, but supposedly during the post civil war era a train derailed somewhere in the Burns area. It was because the man that was supposed to signal the train to stop several miles up track's lantern had burned out just as the train came by and he had no way to signal the train at night to slow down. Ever after the man died a light can be seen at the location at night. I've never actually been there but it's one of those stories you hear people around town talking about and saying that either they saw the light or someone in the past few generations of their family had seen it. I'm staying clear of there myself! Well, just thought ya'll might enjoy hearing a couple of those! If you had family in these areas about 100 years ago, they might have been talking about some of these things! The Cayberry Hill one apparently was a big thing because Dr. Bell was a highly respected member of the community and there's not many people around Vanleer even today that haven't hear something about it! Have a great night ya'll! Caroline
