I believe but have not proven that my wife's gr. gr. gr. grandfather Hugh DICKSON (b. ca. 1770-1774) married Mary COWAN in far East Tennessee. She was probably the daughter of Andrew COWAN whose estate was settled in Jefferson Co. TN. Hugh and Mary(?) moved to Dickson Co. TN buying land in Dickson Co. in Dec. 1803. Then a Dickson County neighbor, John DICKSON, had a daughter Margaret DICKSON who married a David COWAN. The estate record of Andrew COWAN also shows he had a young son named David and I suspect it is the same guy. I also believe but have not proven that Hugh DICKSON of Dry Branch and John DICKSON of Raccoon Creek were brothers. David COWAN and Margaret are in Humphreys Co. TN in the 1820 census but David died very young and she appears to have remarried a BOATRIGHT. But Margaret also died while her three COWAN children (one son and two daughters) were still minors. Margaret's brother, James W. DICKSON, of Carroll County, TN was named guardian of the three COWAN chldren. James W. DICKSON moved on to Red River County TX and I think one of the COWAN daughters moved to Texas as well. Anything here relate to your COWAN research? *************************************************************************** This is an automatically-generated notice.
