This info turned out to be the key for me...that Sarah Bramlett was not James's wife, and it helped point to the source of misinformation I've seen posted. My cousin John Petty took the information you found posted, and pointed me to the widow of James Petty's uncle Gabriel, who had a second wife, who we think was an "Edwards" and whose first husband was Mr. Brumlett. Her second husband Gabriel Petty died before 1850. So, John's information about the widow Sarah Petty on the 1850 Madison Co TN census has been a real find--clearing up so much. 1850 Census Madison Co TN dist #11, page 317. Family #400 Sarah Petty 46 NC, a widow; children; William H. 26 TN., Sanford 18 TN., Martha 17 TN., Levi S. 13 TN., Benjamin F. 8 TN., Mary F. 6 TN., *Henry H. Bramlett 22 TN., and Sarah Bramlett 16 TN. Seeing this census, it is now clear where misformation about James D. Petty came from. He did not have a wife named Sarah b. ca 1804 NC or children named Wm. H; Sanford; Martha; Levi; Benj.; or Mary F. He did not die before 1850. He did have children Wm. C; Mary Jane; Elizabeth "Bettie"; and Sarah L. And a son and daughter who are unaccounted for. He died in 1857 in Texas. Sometimes proving what is "not correct" can be a "breakthru" too. Glad you took the time to look into this. Sharolyn *************************************************************************** This is an automatically-generated notice.
