In the early 1800's several "Primal" families lived along Yellow Creek in Dickson County between Cedar Creek and the Montgomery County line. The names DICKSON, PARRISH, JAMES, GOODRICH, ELLIS, STEWART, WILSON, WEST, KIMBLE, TURNER, MORRISON and ANDERSON seemed to have been closely aligned. There were others of course but these are the names I recall immediately. I think Francis ELLIS owned the land where Salmon Branch enters Yellow Creek which would place him right in the middle of the area I've described. There is a road along Yellow Creek today known as ELLIS Mills. It's the unusual first name you mentioned that caught my eye. I've worked on "Elcanor" PARRISH who lived on Bear Creek and "Elcanor" JAMES who lived on Dry Branch. All the creeks I mention in this post are tributaries of Yellow Creek. Most transcribers typically show the name as "Eleanor" misreading the "c" as an "e". Most PARRISH/JAMES researchers agree that Elcanor PARRISH's daughter married Enos JAMES and they named one son Elcanor JAMES. A John DICKSON lived on Raccoon Creek but died before Jan. 1823. A William ANDERSON and a Levi ANDERSON are mentioned as buying items at the sale of his estate. So did Elcanor PARRISH. There was one note for $5 owned by Allen ANDERSON. The names WHITWELL and MURRAY I do not recognize as being early Yellow Creek names. By the way....Elcanor PARRISH came to Dickson County from Person Co. NC with perhaps a short stopover in Smith Co. He moved to Perry Co. TN ca. 1824 and then to Pope Co. AR before 1840. He had many children and some children remained in Dickson, Perry and Pope Counties with at least one moving on to TX. Any of this ringing any bells? *************************************************************************** This is an automatically-generated notice.
