    1. Lemuel Bruce and Bruce Family, Dickson Co. TN
    2. Mollie, most of what I have is just guesswork at this time. I am presently researching census records to see if I can pin it down more. Here is what I can tell you for now, and will get back with you, hopefully this weekend. My ggg grandmother is Luvicy (or Lavicy) Bruce. Family story says her father is an A. Bruce. In my years of research, I have run across Manning A. Bruce in Illinois. He is on the 1840, 50, 60, 70, and 80 census in that state. On the 1850 census there is a Thomas Bruce next door to Manning. Thomas is 10 years younger than Manning, but was also born in Tennessee (born about 1820). Manning was born in Tennesse in about 1810. Manning married Jane Phenix Campbell. in Illinois. Jane's brother, Preston Kemper Phenix, married Luvicy (and husband Obediah Nix) daughter Mary Arminda. The Nix family was in Illinois on the 1830, 40 and 50 census before moving to Texas. Manning is on a couple of legal papers with Obediah. Also, Obediah Nix and Luvicy Bruce's youngest son is Manning Lafayette Nix. Ii have long suspected that Manning was a borther to my Luvicy. No one had ever been able to find out what Manning's middle name was. Manning's obituary states he had a brother named Thomas. Earlier this year I was in contact with a man in Illinois who is descended from my Nix family. He happens to live in the same town that Manning married for the second time. His wife made a trip to the courthouse for us, and got the marriiage license - if only all marriage license had the information that one did, boy would we all be better off. It gave his full name, Manning Anderson Bruce, stated he was born in Rutherford Co. TN, and that his father was Anderson Bruce and his mother was Sarah Manning. On a search on Rootsweb.Com, I did a search for a Lemuel Bruce. When it came up, I then narrowed the search by stating mother's name of Sarah. I found a site that had a Sarah Bruce and an unknown Mr. Bruce as parrents of Lemuel Bruce who married Permellia England. It listed their 12 kids. It also listed 3 siblings for Lemuel and stated he was born abt 1796 in S.C.; a Franklin F. Bruce born abt 1800; Spartan Bruce born abt 1810 and James Bruce born abt 1813 in TN. Sarah Bruce was born about 1770 in S.C. The 1860 Dickson Co. census has a L. Bruce age 62. In the household with his was his mother Sarah, age 90 - that means she would have been born abt 1770. In addition to locating Manning Bruce born 1810, and Thomas Bruce born 1820, I have been corresponding with other people and we believe there are 2 other siblings to my Luvicy. One is Charlotte born abt 1797, who married William Gabriel Pickens in Maury Co. TN in 1816 (By the way, there is an Anderson Bruce on the 1820 Maury Co. census, one household away from Milly Nicks. Milly is the mother of Obediah Nix, who married Luvicy Bruce about 1819.) The other Bruce find is Harriet Bruce, who married Turley Hopper. There were on the 1850 census in Madison Co. TN - and Harriet died a couple of years after the census. There is an Anderson Bruce on the 1840 Madison Co. TN census. Both Harriet and Charlotte named sons Anderson and Thomas. If you run the kids mentioned in the Roots Web find, and my Luvicy and those we suspect, it works out pretty close to the census records I have found Lemuel b 1796 Charlotte b 1797 Luvicy born 1798 Franklin F. born 1800 Spartan born abt 1810 Manning born abt 1810 James born abt 1813 Harriet born abt 1815 Thomas born 1820 I hope I haven't so confused you that you think I am crazy. As you can see, all is very circumstantial at the present time. I hope someone can help with some proof. Christine

    3. Christine, I am a little confused but I need to seperate the names on paper , like on a family group sheet then I will be able to to determine what you saying.. My line runs from Lemuel to Beverly Bruce (male) who married Levica Craft and then their son , Franklin C. Bruce who married Arminta Black and their daughter my grannie Sallie Bruce,Now I show Lemuel and Permilia have a son also named Anderson Bruce..Now I have found as I am sure you have as well how family members will carry on a first name, actually that is what makes it so confusing sometimes.. But I look forward to hearing from you ..
