My great grandfather, James Marquis "Mark" Ewing, moved just south of Tennessee City about 1901 and bought from the Rickerts what court house records called the "Abs Baker place". Maps today show Ewing Hollow a little over a mile south of Tenn. City and on the west side of Garner's Creek Road. Ewing's 300 acre tract is thought to have extended from Garner's Creek west to the Humphreys Co. line and was likely just north of the McElhiney Cemetery. Grandpa Ewing was a sawmiller and lived initially on the hilltop on McElhiney Road, but soon built a new house with lumber and equipment brought from Ohio. I believe Abs Baker was a merchant because he issued brass store tokens, some of which I have discovered. They note his store as Tennessee City. If anyone has more details about the exact location of the old Abs Baker place, I would love to hear it.
