As previously reported on this post, this Hugh DICKSON was NOT the father of the line of DICKSONs set forth in the "Primal Families of the Yellow Creek Valley". It has also been reported that he married Hannah HICKS. Hugh and Hannah moved to Franklin Co. AL. He died there ca. 1843. Hannah applied for bounty land based on his service in the War of 1812 stating they married in Dickson Co. TN. However, the grant was not approved because she couldn't prove the marriage. The Dickson Co. marriage records were destroyed in the tornado ca. 1830. This information came from the Franklin Co. AL genalogy website. A daughter of Michael DICKSON (Hugh's brother) wrote a Dickson Family Memorandum where she gave information about her family, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. In that document she named the children of Hugh and Hannah. I think it is a very credible document....almost like seeing an old Bible record although I've only seen a typed copy...not the original. However, it says that Hugh DICKSON (i.e. her Uncle) married "his cousin Hannah DICKSON"! That raises a number of interesting questions. Is it possible that Hannah DICKSON was a widow of a man named HICKS? Was the writer just using Hannah'a married name and there is a family relationship with the HICKS family? If anybody has any ideas please advise. Perhaps Hannah's actual bounty land application will shed some light on it. If anyone is interested, I have the disability Pension file of Abner DICKSON (another brother of Hugh) from the National Archives. It's interesting but did not provide the genealogy goldmine I was expecting. Abner also lived in Franklin Co. AL. as did some of the PEARSALL kin out of Dickson Co. TN. I "think" it was Benjamin PEARSALL. *************************************************************************** This is an automatically-generated notice.
