His name was Russell Reams Wall. He had several brothers and two sisters, but he did not tell me much about any of them. His father was a farmer, had married twice, and was still living c. 1928. But my early attemps to find the family were balked by the fact that my father told me his father's name was George Benjamin, while years later, when my stepmother attempted to find him, she concluded that his name was really William Wall, but he was known as 'Long Tom.' I would like to be able to tell my grandchildren something about this side of their family, but my attempt to get a copy of my father's birth certificate seem to go nowhere. His brothers' names, so far as I know, were; Slayden Esquew; Burvin or Burven, who lived in Clarksville in his later years. There were two sisters, Sophronia, called Fronie, and Dixie. I think they both married men named Smith. I'm not even sure if my maternal grandmother was named Alice Bow or Bowe, or Isabel or Belle Doll. One of them was my grandmother. Talk about a silent man! So, is there a possibility that I can find my father's birth record in Charlotte? Where should I apply? If I am able to find his birth recorded, may be it will include his parents names. Is any of this available online, or should I drive to Charlotte, or Dickson, or Cumberland Furnace to look in a City Clerk's archives? I don't expect a lot of information, but at 76, I find I really would like to know the names of my grandparents, at least. Thank you for any information you may be able to offer me to get me started.
