Edmond Mansell Tidwell's age is given as 17 in the 1850 Census of Dickson Co. TN, the census taken in June, his b'day being in July when he would've turned 18. So that means he was b. in 1832, and the month and day are from "Bible Records of TN" Bible of Edmond Tidwell, Jr. This is what Goodspeed's History of Dickson Co. TN has to say about Edmond Mansell Tidwell's death. "Edmond Tidwell, son of Malachi Tidwell and brother to Annie Tidwell Richardson, enlisted on Dec. 12, 1862 as a Private in Co. K. of the 11th TN Infantry. He was a teamster and died during the war on March 16, 1863 in Cheatham's Division Hospital according to muster rolls." "Co. K originally called Co. H and Co. E along with 8 other Cos. were sent to Camp of Instruction at Camp Cheatham in Robertson Co. TN where they were organized into a regiment June 1, 1861." So that makes me think that Cheatham's Division Hospital was in Robertson Co. not Cheatham Co. as I first thought. Do you know what the Matthew L. Gentry's middle name was? Janna
At the time Edmund Mansel Tidwell died (March 17, 1863) the 11th Tennessee Infantry was stationed near Shelbyville, Tennessee where they went into winter camp after the fierce Battle of Murfreesboro. The 11th Tennessee Infantry was assigned to Preston Smith's Brigade of Benjamin F. Cheatham's Division. Although Camp Cheatham was named after this same General Benjamin F. Cheatham, this division hospital is no reference to "Camp Cheatham" where the regiment was trained in the late spring of 1861. Cheatham's Division hospital was simply a designation for a field hospital probably located in a church or residence in Shelbyville and was used specifically for the men of Cheatham's Division. M.
