Hello! My name is Caroline, I have been on the list for a couple of years or so and must say it's my "cyber home"!! I was born and raised just outside of Memphis. My husband's family have resided many generations in Dickson County. I started researching my own families history in 1986. After we moved to Middle Tennessee and were walking the streets and gardening the land where my husband's family had done so for many generations, ( now this pains me to admit it!) I became more interested in researching his family than mine because we are here on part of the old homeplace and I got caught up in the history of where we are. Most all of my hobbies have to do with "old" stuff (as my kids often tell me) , genealogy is my favorite hobby, but I also like to look for arrowheads, garden a little, watch hummingbirds in the spring and summer out my kitchen window (counted six this morning) and scan the local antique malls for "treasures". My next career could easily be "Flea Market Lady" . The Main Dickson County surnames that I am searching are---- Milam,Waynick, Gilmore,Lewis,Bone Hope you all have a great day! Caroline
Hi everyone! My name is Sandy and I was go glad to turn on the computer and see that everyone is sharing this morning! I'm just a few miles up the road from Dickson in Clarksville (Montgomery County). I don't know when I started working on genealogy because I used to spend more time with the grown-ups than with the kids. I loved the stories and was always full of questions. By 1980, I had a lot of names/dates/places and realized that I needed to document some of the information. I was lucky enough to have met people like Eileen Baggett and Maloye Bragg who had been working on the Baggett family for years. They took me under their wings and taught me a lot of things--I'll always be indebted to those wonderful ladies! I also spent a lot of time talking to the former "official" historian of Montgomery County, Ursula Beach. I was "tickled to death" when I learned that Mrs. Ursula actually knew my g-granddaddy! I had to pack my "stuff" away for a few years. I sure hated to but family and work was more important at the time. I never forgot about it and kept adding notes, knowing that I'd someday get time to work on it again. Now, I'm semi-retired---I work as few hours as possible keeping books for a local landscaper/nursery. I'm seriously considering turning in my resignation so I can spend some time doing things I enjoy---genealogy is 1st on that list! The names I'm working on in this area are ELLIS, BAGGETT, HODGES, BARTEE, HARKLEROAD, HAYES, WALKER, SHEPPARD, SHEPHERD, GRAHAM, FITZGERALD, NASH---I could go on but these are plenty! I'll be happy to share what information I have---and I'm still adding "notes from the past". Yes, I'm still working on the computer room (got side-tracked again!) and I found another box of notes that I haven't added to my files yet! (And the cat hasn't brought in any more birds or rabbits so maybe she's learning!) Sandy Ellis
