    1. Re: [TNDICKSO] sharing information/ Mitchells
    2. Hello Dot... I would be very interested in your Mitchells... My line is from Tennesse to Texas also....started in TN about 1838 as far as I know and went to Hunt county Texas around 1870.. tho other Mitchells stayed in TN.. mostly around Dickson. I have always been curious about the Sheltons... I saw them on the Census so many times next door or very near the Mitchells.... Please send what you have on Mitchells in Tn and Texas and lets see if we are "new" relatives! found I was cousin to about four others on this web site. My line. so far starts with William w. Mitchell and wife Arabella... first in 1838 in Humphrey county tax list but by 1840 were in Dickson...William died a Prisoner in Confederate Prison..Arabella died somewhere in Houston county... most of the family stayed in Dickson and married there.....most of the Mitchell girls remained in and around Dickson.....grandfather William Robert Mitchell moved to Hunt county Texas.............anything familiar here? Lenora You can send to me direct if you prefer to do so instead of thru this site.

    3. Hi Lenora, I am always glad to share information about my Mitchells. Of our "brick walls" two different Mitchell lines are two of them. However they didn't live in Dickson Co. TN as far as I know. From Warren Co. TN >> TX Allen Mitchell, b. Nov 12, 1793, NC, d. Apr 11, 1889, buried Eagle Springs Cem. Coryell Co. TX. Sarah _____ (his wife) b. Feb 22, 1804, TN, md. maybe bet. 1832-1833 (burned courthouse--no marriage record) d. Nov 11, 1887, buried next to Allen. Children: Daniel M. b. Abt 1834, TN (probably Warren Co.) died aft 1870, md. Margaret Mary Beal (we think) bef. 1856, MO--maybe Dade Co. or ?? Can't find him after 1870. Doctor James (his name) b. Nov 28, 1835. His Civil War pension file says he was born in McMinn Co. TN. I suspect in his old age he got McMinnville and McMinn Co. TN mixed up. Can't be sure. Died June 18, 1924, Round Rock, Williamson Co. TX. Lydia L. Parker, his wife, Feb 17, 1830, IL, md. Dec 25, 1856, Washington Co. IL, d. May 17, 1906, buried beside Dock. Nicholas, b. March 20, 1840, TN (Warren Co.?) d. between 1880 & 1882, probably Cherokee Co. KS. Avarilla C. Beal, (his wife) b. Dec 28, 1845, Dade Co. MO, md. bet. 1860-1861 ? (Dade or Webster Co. MO?) d. Apr 2, 1910, Republic, Greene Co. MO. Richard, b. abt. 1842, TN (Warren Co.?) d. aft 1860. Cannot find again after the 1860 census Dade Co. MO. Mary Ann "Polly", b. abt. 1844 TN (Warren Co.?) d. aft 1860. Cannot find after the 1860 census Dade Co. MO. Amanda Adaline, b. Sep 25, 1846, Warren Co. TN, d. Oct 12, 1935, Purcell, McClain Co. OK. Samuel Shook Mitchell, (her husband) b. Aug 12, 1844, Wayne Co. IL, md. Sept 1, 1864, Washington Co. IL. Died March 30, 1914, Montgomery Co. MO. They lived most of their married years in Montgomery Co. MO. The last two above are my maternal great grandparents. Allen & Sarah Mitchell were in Warren Co. TN in 1850. Hard to tell for sure how long they were there because the pre 1850 censuses don't quite match the right ages, etc. Also there was more than one Allen Mitchell in TN pre 1850. They left Warren Co. after the 1850 census and went with other Mitchells (can't prove a relationship) to Dade Co. MO. There by 1860. The 1865 Illinois state census shows them in Washington Co. TN, along with sons of the other Mitchells who came from TN. After 1865, we can't find Allen & Sarah again until 1876 on the MO State census in Montgomery Co. with Samuel and Amanda. Where they were in 1870 and 1880 is a big mystery. We have searched the Mitchells in several "logical" states and cannot find them in IL, MO, TX, AR. The other Mitchell family (Samuel's) came from IL, as far as we can tell. Samuel's father, Solomon Mitchell was born in IL 1814, and we don't know who his father, mother or siblings were---another "brick wall". As far as Mitchells in TX, both Allen & Sarah and at least son Dock and his wife moved there, but also some of the descendants of the "other" Mitchells from Warren Co. TN also went there. So did some of the MO Mitchells. They were in Bell, Bartlett, Comanche Coryell, Travis, Williamson and who knows where else. I was born in Parker Co. TX and am a Mitchell. My mother was a Hadden and born in Hunt Co. TX in 1903. Then they moved back to Parker Co. My Shelton ancestor is Letitia "Letty" (Shelton) Duncan, b. abt. 1782, VA or KY? Married Charles Duncan Aug 21, 1797, Lincoln Co. KY. Then moved to Lincoln Co. TN. He died 1815, in the War of 1812, leaving Letty with 10 children. She is on the 1820 census Lincoln Co. TN. Letty moved with most of her 10 children to Marion Co. IL by about 1823 and died there abt. 1846. These Sheltons and Duncans married lots of Luttrells and Easleys. If anything clicks, please let me know. Dot
