CHARLES EDWARD1 LEECH was born Bet. 1731 - 1735 in Scotland. He married SARAH PATTERSON 1776 in Philadelphia Pa. Notes for CHARLES EDWARD LEECH: 2. Charles Edward Leech was born in Scotland and died in 1815 in Dickson County. General Notes: Charles Edward Leech came to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from Scotland about 1748. One record says he settled in Chester County, Pennsylvania in the 1760's or 1770's. He was married to Sarah Patterson in Philadelphia about 1776. Sarah was a sister to Mary, who was the mother of Montgomery Bell. When Charles Edward Leach immigrated form Scotland, his brother Duncan probably came with him. Duncan was born around 1731-1735 and married around 1776. All that is known about his family is that Duncan drowned in the New York Harbor during the Revolutionary War. According to A History of Dickson County, by Robert E Corlew, Montgomery Bell offered to sell Edward a one thousand acre tract of land on Johnson's Creek in Dickson County, Tennessee. Edward declined the offer. Bell then offered to exchange the property in Tennessee for Edwards property in Pennsylvania and convinced Edward he was getting the better land. Having never been to the area, he took Bell at his word and agreed to exchange properties with him. When he reached Dickson County he discovered the property was in no way what Bell had represented to him. On the other hand, Bell made a very good profit on the Pennsylvania land. In Dickson County Deeds, Book B, pages 37-38, there is mention of the land from Montgomery Bell to Edward Leach. It gives bond for ten thousand dollars and was registered July 24, 1812.
