Perhaps, you know of a family will etc which might mention any Petty grandchildren? James D. Petty b. ca 1797 NC was the son of Thomas & Jane (Darwin) Petty. Born in NC, Jim moved to Dickson Co with his family ca 1807 and was raised on his father's farm on the Piney River, part of which Jim later owned and then sold by 1840s. Researchers list Jim's wife as "Sarah" b. 1804 in NC. I have no hint where such info came from; no documenation; just Sarah. Their oldest child William Carroll Petty was born 12-18-1824 on the Piney, in Dickson Co and married Susan DeShazer of Hickman Co TN. This family appears on Hickman Co records as often as Dickson Co. Their youngest child Sarah L. Petty was born 5-1-1842 on the Piney River in Dickson Co. Sarah(?) must have died then or shortly after. Another daughter Elizabeth Levina (Betty) married into the Hedge family of Humphries Co. After baby Sarah was born, Jim sold his property in Dickson and Benton Co, probably moving to Arkansas before he fought in the Mexican War and moved to Texas--and there is no mention of a wife.
