I am hoping someone can help me out. I have an uncle that is almost 80 and he has mentioned to me several times about an old house he and his family use to live in. He tells me about the fond memories he has of this house. At the time my uncle was about 14, 15 in that age bracket. He would like to see it again but it is impossible. I was hoping very strongly that someone in the Dickson Digger family might have an old picture of the house or know of someone that might. The house was a wood 2 story house with a porch across the front and a porch on the upstairs level also. It had 2 chimneys, one on each side. My uncle described it as the O Dudley Place on Missionary Ridge in Dickson, TN. It was owned by Mr. Will O. Dudley and my grandparents rented it from his son that lived in Only, TN. The son was a mail carrier at that time. I know I am asking a lot here but I would at least like to try and get a copy of it and have it enlarged so I could give it to my uncle. My John C. 1812 moved to Gibson Co from Williamson Co. in the 1850s. This part of Gibson Co became a part of Crockett Co. when it formed. My John C. 1812 had grandchildren related to Leonard Fielders through his youngest son's marriage to Fannie Taylor who named one of her sons Leonard Fielder Dunagan. They were also neighbors to the Fielders. I have been looking for John C. parents for 40 years. I could use any help. I know naming patterns are not reliable but John C children were: John R., William Thomas, Robert Monroe, James A., Edwin Milton Calvin. Hi, Do you know if Aaron Laws was related to Margaret Laws, born abt. 1802, died between 1843-1846 in Dickson County, TN? She was married to John Squire Brown. They were my gggrandparents through their daughter Margaret who first married David C. Sellars and after his death married Andrew Jackson Sellars. I haven't determined the connection between her two husbands. I haven't been able to trace Margaret Laws parents so if you have any additional information I would appreciate receiving it. My suggestion would be for the County Court to take charge of and maintain and keep up what roads we have. First, see how many miles one man, one mule, dump cart, plow, pick and shovel can keep up. I believe one man can keep in good repair twenty miles of road. There is too much that can be said along this line and for one man to think of and write. Let a man go on the road every day. We have plenty of gravel; a steady drop will make a hole in a rock. I am not writing this because I am trying to run the County Court but thinking it will put them to thinking. We know we have got to do something to keep our pikes up or they will soon go down. I think this would better meet the approval of the people than for the county to go ahead and buy a lot of costly machinery; don't you think so? My idea would be this: Say that a man or a road-hand that lives on a pike to pay 75 cents per day for five days or work five days on some road that is not a pike. Leave this to his choice and that will satisfy him. If he pays, let it go to help pay the contractor. The Court could figure and what they thought one man could handle, they could set some day to let out the contract to the lowest and best bidder. Crow, who resides just south of town, committed suicide( Dickson County Death Records Curtis Crow, age 21, Died April 28, 1915, CDS, of Pistol wound in left side. Took 2 ounces of Laudanum with suicidal intent, Adcock Cemtery) Tuesday night. About 9 p.m. he stopped at the home of his aunt, Mrs. Peyton Hooper, who lives on the road between his home and Dickson and handed her an empty two ounce bottle and stated that she could keep it as he didn't need it anymore. She asked him where he was going and he said, "I have started home but 1 will never get there." Thinking he was only joking she paid no attention to his remark. A few moments later she heard a pistol shot and upon investigating found young Crow laying beside the road, he having shot himself near the heart with a 32-caliber pistol The alarm was given and he was carried to his father's home and medical aid summoned. After reaching home he talked freely stating that he had first taken two ounces of laudanum but fearing that that would not kill him he shot himself. When asked why he did it he said, "I have had more trouble than 1 can stand and I want to die." He remained conscious for about one and a half hours but did not die until about 5:00 Wednesday morning. Curtis was a kind hearted and an industrious young man and was well liked by all who knew him and it is greatly lamented by all that he committed the rash act. It was a severe shock to his father and the sympathy of the entire community is extended to him and all of the bereaved ones. Mr. Crow and children had a narrow escape as part of the building was falling in when they awoke. It is thought the fire caught in the kitchen from a defective flue and had gained such headway when discovered that practically none of the household goods or clothing were saved. Curtis was a kind hearted and an industrious young man and was well liked by all who knew him and it is greatly lamented by all that he committed the rash act.
