I am sorry Rick, but I don't have a Carolyn Hudson or a William Baker. My husand's Hudson family was Betty (Elizabeth) Hudson who married William Hurt. Her family seems to have come into the area after the Am. Rev. This couple was married in Mecklenburg County, VA in 1790 and they were in Tennessee after that. I believe William Hurt died prior to 1830's census as Betty Hudson is listed in that one without a husband. Betty Hudson's parents were John Hudson/Frances or Frankey Camp. I know John Hudson died in Mecklenburg County in 1838, but his wife outlived him and I don't know where she died. I think they did not go to Tennessee. Lisa, so sorry to hear about your mother. I did now know your mother personally but we have emailed several times about folks in Dickson Co. She seemed to be a very giving person and always would help if she could. May God Bless her. An online friend of mine sent me the will of Samuel Johnson, dated 1816. Samuel's wife's name was Polly (don't know the maiden name). I am trying to make a connection to the son named Duncan, as my 3rd great grandfather was a Duncan Johnson, who was living in Tennessee when his first child, Randolph Johnson, was born in 1800, but I have no clue as to just which county they were in, in Tennessee. Thanks for any help. *************************************************************************** This is an automatically-generated notice. ***posted with permission of the list administrator** I realize there are rules against "commerical adversting" and I want to assure you, this is soley a free message board for people to share their brick walls with other researchers they might not encounter elsewhere. I am not selling anything, or advertising anything that is "commercial". The forum is completely free, and you are welcome to check it out to verify that I MOST definately advocate free sharing of genealogy. For anyone interested in learning more, posting research queries, sharing information etc related to family histories, I have started a new website, with a discussion forum for this. Saturday March 17th makred the unveiling of http://www.ancestrallychallenged.com/forum a discussion forum (for posting brick walls and such and for links to other free sites) If you join the message board, there is place for you to add a link to your own site as well :) Thanks, Shannon Byers

Jim I share with ever one LOL as some how almost everyone researching in Colonial Virginia is related, My Interest in Surry County is in Several Families some being Johnson, Oliver, King, Allen and Williamson are just a few, as I am studying the early Johnson's of Colonial Virginia and in doing this one has to put back together the early CLANS of the Colonies. I descend from Col. Arthur Allen and the Williamson Connections that move onto the Byrd Creek System. The Col Arthur Allen families take the travel pattern of first Surry Co. then going into lands in Middlesex County before going to the Tuckahoe Creek Drainage System, then into Washington Co. NC ( Hawkins Co. Tn) to Williamson Co. Tn to Dickson County Tn. The Tuckahoe Drainage System is where we find my matching DNA of Michael Johnson who died 1718. who has the repeating name of Joseph Johnson in it. It is my belief that these people lived as a clan (which they did in 1600 and 1700 time era) they stayed together married together moved together and went to war together until the War between the States wiped out most of the Male Population. IN doing my Genealogy research I have found it easier to first identify the land these people lived on in doing this I do it by Stream Creek and or land mass. Then I add the people to the Land, then I add the Church Parish's and then I add the County Line changes in a time outline. I then use a travel Line on where these families went. I am currently working on the Oliver Families of Surry County, reason The Reverend Thomas Murrell from 1780-1784 lead numerous settler's to Carter's Valley in what was then Washington Co. NC which is now Hawkins Co. Tn. The first of his families Start with ON Edward Oliver about 1640-50 era buying lands from Capt. Henry Perry ( Who is also connected to the Richard Pace- Johnson research of Surry Co to Middlesex County to Byrd Creek). Capt. Henry Perry's Father William Perry re married the widow Isabela Pace. I Will to try and shorten this Wm Bird who Byrd Creek in Henrico Co. is named for, his family as they lead settlers to this water drainage system. Edward Oliver's family is one of them as William Murrell on Sellar's Run of Surry County his son is Thomas Murrell who married Elizabeth Oliver daughter of William Oliver of Surry County. This begat the line of Reverend Thomas Murrell born abt 1730 died in Dickson Co. Tn in bef 1830. My Hudson Johnson is following him since 1782 from Henry Co. Va to Carter's Valley Wshington Co. NC to Williamson Co. Tn to Stewart Co. Tn in lands that in days change to Dickson Co. Tn. And Yes the King Surname is found numerous times in this Known travel Pattern I will send you my files on Upper Chipoakes Creek for review travel Pattern of Rev. Thomas Murrell families and Surry County Johnson information. Some of you may know "The Shadow' on these lists... I have known Jean since the late 1900's and knew her to be witty, extremely bright, kind, wise..... and sincere. Jean was 64 and died of a heart related problem..... I was shocked to read this news on Dickson's digest..... and talked with her daughter Lisa just a min ago. She, her dad and sister are all coping well and are full of the love Jean left behind............. What more can we ask for ? Jean was a serious genealogist and friend to Tennessee. Try the Civil War Soldier & Sailors System, operated by the National Park Service. It is on the Internet at www.civilwar.nps.gov/cwss. I note several Willeys listed there serving on the confederate side. This is an excellent reference site. If you get no hits using the exact name, try only the last name & also consider spelling it differently. Happy hunting!
