Rick: It is almost a miracle how I came to be aware of it. Back in the 90's, a builder was clearing land with a bulldozer and came across some old graves. At that time, some of the stones were legible, including "Reubin Gunn" and some of the letters of his wife's stone. There were others that were not legible. He immediately stopped, and put some barbed wire around the graves. Completely by coincidence, at that same time my mother and I were in Nashville doing Gunn research at the archives, and someone overheard her say, "I guess we'll never know where Reuben Gunn is buried." And a worker there said, "Gee, everybody is talking about this guy. Some woman from California was just here trying to track down a builder who has found his grave!" We called the woman in California, and in what was a monumentally expensive long-distance cell phone call back then, she directed us to the site. When I was last there, the stones were almost unreadable. I have learned from Abb Gunn (Clan Gunn genealogist for North America) that there has been construction on the site, and we don't know if the graves were destroyed or not. With this email, I'm putting you in touch with him, you can give you site and more info. What a tragedy if these graves have been lost! Reuben's son Lawson who fought in the War of 1812, and grandson Andrew Jackson Gunn who was a Civil War vet, are buried on a farm on Garner's Creek Road, and their graves are being destroyed too, just out in the middle of a field. Thanks. My great great uncle was named William Hutson Tuley. His father had connections to the Jacksons who lived in Dickson county in the very early 1800s. I am looking for a connection, but it may just be a close friend rather than a blood relative. This is in reponse to Rick's message. I do not have a William Hurt who fits your time of being b. in 1810. I have an earlier William Hurt who was married to Elizabeth (Betty) Hudson--they were b. in about 1767 or so, at least she was. That William Hurt did have brothers: Philemon m. to Mary Hudson, James m. to Ermine Vaughan, Moza m. to Sally Overton and Wagstaff who married Frances Elam. William and Betty Hudson had: Philip Campion m. to Polly Allen, John and William and also Nancy Prudence and Polly. Any or all of them may have come to either Humphreys or Dickson Counties. The William who was the son of William Hurt and Betty Hudson married Elizabeth Bowers on 9 Feb 1829 in Davidson County with William White performing the ceremony. Wagstaff Hurt signed the marriage bond and the witnesses was William P. Hill. They removed to Dyer County and had at least one son, James Maxey Hurt who was born in Davidson County prior to the family's removal to Dyer County. He married Martha White, daughter of Jeremiah White and Nancy Hill who removed from Davidson County after a marriage in 1818 and lived in Gibson County. I do know that Bakers were in Dyer County when the Hurts were. There was a Sheriff Baker mentioned in the records of that county. I would say that the Baker in Dyer County is a descendant of the Bakers in Dickson/Humphreys Counties. Judy Arthur ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. Just a little interesting info: We have been thinking about Tuckahoe Creek and Byrd Creek. You know they are about 30 -40 miles apart. Tuckahoe Creek crosses the Henrico County Line today while Byrd Creek (there are two actually, Big Byrd and Little Byrd) are almost wholly in Fluvanna County. The James River is very difficult to navigate up past Manakin (near Tuckahoe) It is swift and full of boulders. You can be wading along and slide in over your head and be trapped in seconds. Horses cannot cross it. This is why the Kanawha Canal was built in the 1800's. So there was no way to get from Tuckahoe to Byrd during the early 1700's except by Three Chopt Road which started out an Indian path and wound to the North of the Byrd. Thomas Jefferson's parents lived near Tuckahoe Creek, and their "summer home" was near Lickinhole Creek which is before you even get to Byrd Creek!

Judy, this is also interesting. William Baker and Carolyn Hudson had a daughter named Jane Baker who married Benjamin Hurt. Benjamin and Jane were my wife's great grandparents. They were in Dickson Co., TN. Benjamin was the son of Charles Hurt (Humphreys Co.) who was the son of William Hurt. We show William as being born in Virginia about 1810. I'm sure this isn't the same William but I wouldn't be surprised if there is some connection. Thanks for your reply. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Jkarthur@aol.com> To: <tndickso@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 24, 2007 8:36 AM Subject: [TNDICKSO] Hudson/Baker >I am sorry Rick, but I don't have a Carolyn Hudson or a William Baker. Although the two surnames are what I'm searching for, our William Baker married Carolyn Hudson. There still may be a connection to either of those that you mentioned. I'll try and research further.
