At this point, I guess I'm not certain of my wife's great grandmother's name. I do know that she was a daughter of William Haywood Baker. My information shows that William had a son by the name of William as well. He was married to Edna Abercrombie in Dickson Co. The daughter that we've believed to be Jane(?) was married to Benjamin Hurt. Have you ever seen a picture of William Baker? We have one so if you have, why don't I send it to you and see if it's the same William Baker. Until now, we haven't seen any birth or death dates for William or his wife in our records. Your information is new to us. Hopefully, we can get to the bottom of this. I appreciate your help. Sent you another note today. You indicated your wife's ancestor was Jane Baker, daughter of William H. Baker married to Virginia Caroline Pullen b. 1844 the daughter of Nelson Bean Pullen. The 1870 and 1880 census does not show them as having a daughter other than Alice. They were both living with their respective parents on the 1860 census. Consequently they must have married abt 1864 since first child was born abt 1865; son William M. Baker and Alice B. in 1869. There is no daughter born later shown on the 1880 census. The last son was born in 1887 and Haywood must have died after 1887 but prior to the 1900 census. Virginia (Callie) is shown as widow on 1900 census living with one of her sons. This son's younger brother was also with her and older son. That is only way I determined the younger son existed since he was not born in time to make the 1880 census. Can you clarify if I understood correctly that your wife's ancestor was Jane Baker; daughter of William H Baker and Virginia C. on the 1870 and 1880 census.? 1. [TNDICKSO] Chickasaw Indian Trail in Dickson County
    2. preston gilmore
    3. Hello! I was searching for info. on something else and came across an article in a book. It said on May 5, 1805 Michael and Jane Dickson deeded property on both sides of Yellow Creek 1/2 mile BELOW THE CHICKSAW TRACE to James Goodrich. The author of the book thought this location was approximately 6 to 7 miles up yellow creek from Wiley Warden's Store ( at the intersection of Highway 49 and Yellow Creek). I've come across scant exerpts of info. on the Chickasaw Trace Indian Trail like this before but never enough to figure out where it went. If this is right it must have crossed Yellow Creek somewhere between where Ruskin Cave and Skeeter's Market are today. I was hoping someone out there might have more info. on where it went from there?????? I wondered if it eventually turned into a street that is still here today? Wew! I'm just full of questions tonight aren't I???? Have a great night! Caroline

My great grandfather, James Marquis "Mark" Ewing, moved just south of Tennessee City about 1901 and bought from the Rickerts what court house records called the "Abs Baker place". Maps today show Ewing Hollow a little over a mile south of Tenn. City and on the west side of Garner's Creek Road. Ewing's 300 acre tract is thought to have extended from Garner's Creek west to the Humphreys Co. line and was likely just north of the McElhiney Cemetery. Grandpa Ewing was a sawmiller and lived initially on the hilltop on McElhiney Road, but soon built a new house with lumber and equipment brought from Ohio. I believe Abs Baker was a merchant because he issued brass store tokens, some of which I have discovered. They note his store as Tennessee City. If anyone has more details about the exact location of the old Abs Baker place, I would love to hear it. You have cleared a mystery for us. We have always believed that William Haywood Baker was married to Carolyn Hudson but have always met a dead end in trying to find her. Thank you for this great information. William H. Baker was my wife's great great grandfather by way of his daughter, Jane Baker who was married to Benjamin Franklin Hurt. From everything we know, they lived in Dickson Co., TN. We do have a photo of William Baker if you're interested. We'll be glad to send you a copy. Have you ever seen a photo of Virginia Pullen? Abt 1880 in either Humphrey or Dickson Cty, Tenn. Married to Arey Dunnegan. Son was William H. Baker (I am told the H. stands for Haywood from family records). William H. married Virginia Caroline Pullen daughter of Nelson Bean Pullen. Pullen b. 1809 came from Va. to Dickson cty and married Sarah Jackson of Dickson. Some sources say Absolum Baker's father was John Armstrong Baker who was son of John Baker and Susannah Armstrong. John Baker was son of Absolum Baker b. 1723. This line goes back, according to One World Tree to about 1620 Maurice Baker in Va. I cannot verify this since my family records only go to William H. Baker, but our records says William Haywood was m. Virginia Pullen. Several sources on One World Tree says William Haywood Baker was m. Caroline Hudson. This is not correct it was Virginia Caroline Pullen. The census records show her as Virginia C. Baker for 1870,1880,1900, 1910 and 1920. She was living with her sons on the 1900-1920 census. I am inclined to think that the line is correct at least back to Absolum b 1723 since the name is repeated again for Absolum b. 1801 in Ga if I recall correctly. Also the name of Armstrong is repeated again as father of Absolum b. 1801 who was father of William Haywood Baker. William Haywood Baker and Virginia C. Pullen were my great grandparents on my mother's side. For what it is worth.
