    3. About George Wilson and Amy Gill Freeman Wall found in the Glayds' obit: Gladys was my first cousin twice removed. Her father George was my GG Uncle. Gladys told me he died in McEwen, TN. His father was Jeff Wall and his mother was Nancey Virginia Owens. She said Jeff died in May 1930 at the age of 77. Nancey Virginia died 20 Sep 1914. What is your connection? 3. Hi Michael, noticed that you had CHAPPELL listed as part of your family and was wondering if in your research you ever heard of a DOCIE/DOSIE BEATRICE CHAPPELL, supposedly born in BonAqua, 19 JUL 1883. She married into the JOHN WILEY REDDEN family, by marrying JOHN BENJAMIN REDDEN. I was told that she was listed on the 1900 Census as living with her in-laws and that she was noted as being born in Stewart Co.....I don't know how close Stewart Co., is to Hickman or Dickson CO.'s or if it was once the only county around before the division into Hickman and Dickson. Have no other info on her family and ancestors. Could use any and all help given. Thanking you in advance............Joan/Patti from MI

    2. Ira, Thanks for writing your experiences in Saipan. I know it was horrible. Dad received shrapnel in his face when something blew up, he did recover altho he had pieces of that left in his face all his life. He was with the 106th Infantry, 27th Division, G company. My cousin was in one of the Marine units there. I know there was some kind of a controversy betwen the Army and Marines and the Army commander got relieved of duty or something, I have a book about it, but don't remember the details. His unit has a reunion in Cedar Rapids Iowa every June. Dad couldn't attend because he was disabled by strokes by the time they found him to invite him, but after he died my husband and I attended one in his honor. It was very nice. Their unit found a baby Japanese girl while there (dangerous Japanese trick!), and they fed her and used their t-shirts, etc for diapers and she survived. Sharon

    2. Gordan, Do you have a Maggie Bell in your line? My GGF(Alexander Hendrick) married her in Montgomery Co, TN in 1861. They had one child then she died, and he married my GGM, Agnes Mayes. He has been my brick wall, have only found him in Dickson Co. in 1880 census, then lost him??? : ) Even though Maggie's not in my blood line, maybe I could find more info on him, through her? Thanks, Sharon

    3. Hi Joan, I have no direct corroboration to your posted question, but had to right. REDDEN and DUNEGAN are families that interweave with mine as we are also from Bon Aqua. Two Redden sisters, Willie Mathes Redden and Fannie Redden married two BELL brothers (William Paris Bell and Homer Alexander Bell, respectively ca. 1911-1913) More about the Reddens I don't know, but do these two sisters tie in with yours? I have no Nancy Jane Dunegan but Have a lot of Dunnegans in my line though my BAKER connections. Wold love to correspond further on any possible connections. 3. I checked my book , "Index to Tenn. Wills & Administrations, 1779-1861" and there are a number of McFarland and McFarlin names listed, but none of these are in Dickson Co. Other spellings are McFarlane, McFarlen, McFarling There is one listing for Montgomery Co. MCFARLAND, JAMES, 1797, Record Book B, page 70. This would have been before Dickson Co. was formed in 1804. A copy of this will could be requested from the Montgomery Co. Archives or the Tenn. State Library & Archives. Deanna

    2. Sallie, I knew you were going to ask me about deed book B that mentions your William McFarland, but I don't have any information about that. Just what I read. In thumbing through my books though, I found the following. Tthe source is : Dickson Co Tenn. Newspaper Abstracts Volume Four (December 23, 1910 - March 31, 1911) by Laura Wills published by Simmons Historical Publications 1999 page 64 Friday March 24, 1911 newspaper has this notice: "Seth McFarland, who has been employed in Alabama for several months, is spending a few days here the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert McFarland." In your original post (listed below)you said Robert McFarlands date of death could be between 1910 and 1918; well you can narrow it down by one more year, because from this we can see he was still alive March of 1911. I'll keep my eyes open for you! Suzanne <<Samuel O. McFarland died 3 Nov. 1874 Stephen Seth McFarland died 2 Oct. 1882 Elizabeth Biddle McFarland died 11 Sept. 1880 William B. McFarland died bet. 1900-1910 Robert Biddle McFarland died bet. 1910-1918 >>

    1. [TNDICKSO] Remembering our vets
    2. Mike, that is terrific that you were able to find your ancestors like that. It is wonderful to be able to decorate the graves of anyone who has been forgotten for years. I had great-grandparents who lived in Charlotte TN (allegedly?) in the 1860's but I have yet to find anything suggesting any of them were involved in the Civil War. I hope to be able to get more info eventually, genealogy takes a LOT of patience! Karen, thank you for writing too. Your dad was on Saipan! My dad was in the 27th Infantry. His unit started having reunions several years ago but dad had been disabled by strokes and couldn't attend. However, the year he died (1992) my husband and I went in his place and the guys and their wives were so friendly and nice, and I was so happy I got to meet them and I know how much he would have enjoyed it. I had an Uncle who served in Germany in WWII and I have letters that he wrote home about how homesick he was, it really pulls at your heart strings. My husband was in the Army for 8 years, 1972-1980. He had orders for Nam in Basic but they were cancelled just in time, Whew! He was in Armor and spent a lot of time in the field. I never quite understood what they meant calling me a 'dependent!" Hahaha! As an Army bride of 17, I learned to get along on my own fast! Well, enough reminiscing for today. Thanks for the memories! Sharon
