I am Dot and have been on the list a couple of months or so?? Who knows---time flies when we are having fun. The names I am most interested in who lived in Dickson Co. in 1820 are: HADDEN and NESBITT. My mother was a Hadden and her great grandmother was a Nesbitt. There were some other names who married Haddens in Dickson Co. They are: CAMPBELL, HOWARD and WHITE. (I seem to "specialize" in fairly common names-----BROWN, ALEXANDER, DUNCAN, SHELTON, MITCHELL (2 branches), etc. but not all of those were from TN. Other counties in TN of great interest to me are Warren Co. where some of my MITCHELLs came from. Also Lincoln Co. where the DUNCANs and SHELTONs lived in 1820 and some stayed behind when others went to Marion Co. IL. I have only been to Tennessee one time---1993. Loved it and Kentucky both very much. I have not been to where my ancestors lived in either of those states. I didn't even know where some lived in 1993 and those that I did were sort of "on the back burner" then. I was born in the great state of TEXAS, lived much of my life in California and now have lived in Washington state---the wet side of the mountains, but gorgeous today---for over 20 years. If you know anything about any of my ancestors, I would be grateful if you share what you can about them. Dot
Janna - Not familiar with Goodspeed's History of Dickson Co. Tn. If you have the book would you check for anything on John Jones B 30 June 1784 D 11 Nov 1832 in Dickson Co. Tn. He had property that adjoined Turnbull Creek, willed it to his wife Jane (James) Jones who sold the property to her son William Jones (B 25 Dec 1819) on 9 Dec 1850. Would appreciate any info you should happen to find on John Jones or William Jones. Sharon, Were your Sullivans from TN or Sullivans somewhere else? If you know of an Elijah Sullivan, born abt. 1792 NC, died in Carroll Co. MS, I am very interested. Thanks, Dot
Hi Nancy - I have a friend in Ashland City, TN, who's ancestor is George Sugg Allen - any relation? Linda in NM :)
Hi Diggers! I am busy working on emptying the storage locker that Dad and I put all our 'worldly goods' in a year and a half ago.... This is a tough job... cry a while and work a while.. BUT, the money I made last fall at THAT yard sale ALL went to RENT of this *&^% locker... Well... June is the last payment they will get from me. I am having yard sales every weekend thru June... AND at the end.... I will turn it over to a auction co, or a flea market vendor... something like that... IT WILL BE GONE! Mollie has been holding the fort down for me and she is doing a super job... she loves Dickson as much as I do and is super at work on the web site too. When I get my 'business' settled, I am taking a sabatical.... and Mollie will be the one to turn to for advice or to submit info for the web site... She will do as well as me on some things and better on most! So feel comfortable in turning to her if you have a problem that we/she can help you with. The list is very quiet, I think we are all in the garden or getting lazy ...laying back in the shadows like a big ol bass waiting for a fat minnow (surname) to come cruising by to snap it up!!! Well.... Diggers... that 'aint gonna happen'! I think since we have a lot of newbees.... lets all share something... about ourselves, and our surnames that we are researching.... K? I am Cheryl ADAMS (Cher).. the list owner aka: Chief Digger. When I am researching, I am researching ADAMS, DOTSON,BELLAR,BAKER DUGGER,HOOPER,REYNOLDS,TURNER,WILEY.... I am the first generation in 6 that was born outside Dickson County. OK..... who is next? <vbg>
Hello Brenda, I have a Martha Clardy b about 1830 who married Aquilla Brown in Dickson County. Her parents were born in Halifax VA, moved to Williamson County Tn, then to Dickson County and later to Bosque County Texas and Hill County Texas. Do you see a possible connection to your Claridays? Would be happy to share information. Nettye
Good Morning Ira-- There is a terrific mailing list for CA that can probably help you out--actually two. Go to rootsweb.com and click on the blue "mailing lists" tab at the top of the home page and then click on to CA and join both SOCAL and CADI. (Pasadena is in Los Angeles Co, CA--southern CA) They both have wonderful volunteers who look up records for you--marriages, births, deaths, and do transcriptions. I am on NORCAL and CADI (as opposed to your southern ca.) Also the CA death and birth indexes are on line--rootsweb, data base index (left side on home page, near the top), CA--birth, death. You might try checking your people out first--they ask on both mailing lists you do that anyway. Happy Hunting! Pat
Does anyone know for sure who the father of Levi Tidwell b. 1782 was? I have info that it was John Tidwell and also have info that it was John's brother Robert Tidwell and Mary Sims Tidwell. Janna

There is a film series done by the FHC libraries (Mormon Church libraries) that has the California Death Index beginning with 1905 and going through 1929. Then another covers 1930-1939. These films are grouped alphabetically by surname in each set. Rushing would be on #1,686,047 for 1905-1929. For 1930-1939 it would be film # 1,686,049. If you find the name you need, be sure to go back to the beginning of the film and read (or copy) the county codes and how to read the columns otherwise it can be pretty confusing. If you can't find a marriage record through Los Angeles County for him, you might try the City Hall of Pasadena. I don't know if they would have what you need or not, but it won't hurt to give it a try. Good luck, Dot

Hello fellow Diggers: I know some times when you go fishing you catch "Something", and that is what I am trying to do. (Except "Dog Gone it" not the type fish Jan and Cher catch) But now the rest of the story: I have a Great Uncle, Brother to my Paternal Grandmother, children of Andrew Jackson Rushing and Mary Collier, from Humphreys/Stewart and Houston Counties, Tennessee Named George Rushing, born 1873, he was the youngest of 7 children and when he was still quite young took heed to the saying back in those days and "Went West". He settled in California, apparently near Pasadena, married a lady by the name of Carrie Hecker, they had 3 known children and possibly more. Those known are, Mary Jewel, Geneva, and Andrew, no dates or any other information Uncle George apparently died young or at least young enough, that His widow Carrie Hecker Rushing, remarried and either before or after second Marriage opened a Restaurant in Pasadena, I know nothing about the establishment. The reason I say there may be more than 3 children. I have received some papers that were addressed to a Edna Rushing 924 - 38th Street Sacramento California dated July 31, 1930, referencer a request she had made for Revolutionary records of a relative of hers which is my 6 Great Grandfather Richard Rushing, as well as his Brother Philip Rushing also a 7 Great Grandfather of mine on another line of my Rushing relatives. I have examined all records I have access to here, and cannot find out about his time in California, Death, or Marriage except what I have shown. Any Help would certainly be appreciated, Ira Bell Griddip@aol.com

It's been a while since I've asked, so ... Does anyone have any Kephart's in the Dickson County area? I have Mary Anne Kephart born 18 Apr 1825 in Dickson County and died there. On 5 Mar 1843 in Dickson County she married John D. Woodard. Thanks, Michelle
I didn't remember it, but I found this same information and I put this Jesse in my database as an unlinked person. I also have a John D. Woodard who has a son named Jesse and they're in Dickson County too. So, I suspect that this Jesse is the Uncle of my John D. And, John D also had a son named George B. P. I don't find any Sarah.
