Brick walls???? What's that????<LOLOLOL> Congratulations! Jean in TX
Sandy - You give us all hope!!! Glad you found your brick wall. I have only been into searching my Jones lineage since January of this year. Thanks to you and the people at TNDICKSO I have learned a great deal about my Jones family in Dickson Co. Tn. but am still digging for more. Will be calling on you again I am sure. My brick wall is my Grandfather William Stanley Jones. He divorced his wife around 1913 ? , remarried to whom I do not know, and moved from Graves Co. Ky. to Missouri. Not sure if he remarried in Ky. or Mo. The family lost touch with him after he moved to Mo. When my mother passed away in 1998 I found a address in her address book listing Stanley Jones as 208 Cass St. Carterville Mo. Found William S. Jones listed in the 1910 Graves Co. Census so not for sure if he went by William or Stanley. Always heard the family refer to him as Stanley. A distant cousin informed me this week that a funeral home in Joplin Mo. handled his burial. I plan on writing all the funeral homes in Joplin to see if they can help me. Any other suggestions. I don't have a birth or death date for him. Again, glad you found your brick wall and again THANKS to all you great people at TNDICKSO for being so helpful. I talked to Cheryl Adams this week. She lives about 40 miles from me. Said water had gotten into her basement and had quite a mess. Hope I haven't bored you. HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!!!! A couple of days ago, I wondered if I was the only one "wasting time" on the computer. Well, I just have to tell you---I was will-bound and determined to find something about my ggg-grandfather! Over 20 years ago, I was told his name was Isaac Trump and he drowned in the Potomac River on his way home from the Civil War. Then, Daddy gave me a picture of this "cute" young man (Jan has it on the Stewart Co. site) in a Union uniform. His widow remarried and moved to Stewart County. His daughter Clara Alice married Theodore Baxter Hayes (son of James Washington Hayes and Mary Bartee. Bartee is my "Dickson Connection") I always said my g-grandmother and g-aunts gave a lot of family information that I can use as "clues". The information is close--but not accurate enough to document! (If you "don't sweat the small stuff", you don't do genealogy!) When I found everything I could in TN, I started having problems documenting anything. This past week, I found another "clue" that didn't match what my g-grandmother said---but it was close! Isaac's name was really Isaiah! I found a pension application for Hester Trump---a widow's pension application! That's when I contacted that man I mentioned a few days ago. Today, he pulled the file on this application and took a good look at it. He said that "everything" was just like I'd thought it was! Van - Saw your email on TNDICKSO and it was very interesting. When I pulled up the surnames the letters WFT appear with the names and dates. I am new at genealogy and hate to appear dumb, but what is WFT. I couldn't find my Jones lineage there, but they did come from Dickson Co. My direct lineage there is John Jones B 30 June 1784, D 11 Nov 1832. Married Jane James B 9 Sept 1788 D 18 March 1856. John was my gggg grandfather. Their son, Thomas Jefferson Jones B 11 Nov 1813 D 16 July 1903 in Graves Co. Ky. Married to Minerva Underhill B Feb 1816, D 28 May 1862. Thomas Jefferson Jones and family moved from Dickson Co. Tn. to Graves Co. Ky. in March 1850. Didn't mean to bore you. Hi Nettye, Thanks for your reply, even when it is a busy time for you. It is going to get that way for me before I know it. I have Jury Duty July 16 for 2 weeks and then in a few days after that ends, a family reunion at our house. That won't be huge though---probably 8, as it is just my siblings and spouses and our daughter. It surely looks like the Stella May Lott you found in Hill Co. TX might be the daughter of Timothy and Dollie Marsh. I don't have them on a census after 1880. I do have their marriage date and it was from Kaufman Co. TX, July 13, 1893. So a baby born a year later would be about right. I know I had some other Lott relatives in Hill Co. TX for a time, but not Timothy's immediate family. Probably a cousin. Timothy and Dollie are buried in Parker Co. TX. That is where some of the Lotts finally settled. My grandparents are buried there and I was born there. When you get time, I would be interested to learn if W. G. Marsh is the same as one mentioned in your article. Are you related to the Marsh family? Both Dollie and her sister married Lott brothers---both brothers of my grandmother. I don't expect you to answer right away. Spending time with family is far more important. Hi Dot, The only connection I have found thus far was a Stella May Lott b 23 July 1894 and died 6 Oct 1903 who is buried in the Fort Graham Cemetery in Whitney, Hill County, Texas. IT says she was the Daughter of TW and DJ, so I would think she would be the daughter of yourDolly Marsh and Timothy W Lott. I have received about 15 pages from another Marsh researcher, but have not had time to go through it. We have company right now so between cooking and visiting and playing with the 10 year old granddaughter and hearing about college graduation from the 22 year-old one, it's been a bit busy. Genealogy gets left to the late night. I'll be back to you when I hear more. Nettye gengar wrote: > I don't know who they traveled with or when or from which county, but I have > in my data W. G. Hi, I'm here too, just my research has gotten stagnant so there's not much to say. Enjoy the heat and humdity now, in a few months we will all be belly-achin' about the cold and snow, hahaha! Each season has pros and cons! It's just that the one we're NOT in at the time always seems to be the best!!!! Stay cool, everyone! Sharon Jones, Brighton, IL Looking for: HENDRICK, ADAMS, MAYES, DAVIS, CLAUDE in Dickson Co and surrounding areas of TN and KY Come out, come out, wherever you are!!!!
Cold? Snow?---you won't hear me complaining unless it lasts for weeks! (That's not likely to happen in this part of the country.) I've "never" cared for Summer. Everything gets so parched! I guess I have to leave my computer for a while. Bossman called and wants me to come in. (All I have to do is fill out a form for him.) It might take 15 minutes so it's not really worth the trip. Hey Cher! You've been awfully quiet. I hope you didn't include your computer in that sale you had! Sandy
Sandy, I am here and I don't enjoy the heat and humidiity but still trying to piece everything together, so I haven't been able to spend as much time at the computer.. Sandy, what a hoooot, I am married to a retired plumber also, but he hasn't installed a sprinkling system. Huuummmm that is a good idea. Wait till I hit him with that one. Hope you all get some rain and cooler weather. We are having storms today and again tomorrow. I always make my genealogy trips in the fall to avoid all of that heat, but last year at the last of October I was in Hamilton County and it was still hot. Weather really has a lot to do with climbing those hills in the graveyards. I hope Dickson County is cool in October because I am heading that way this time. Pat Durham McRae, in Indiana
Pat, This area is "usually" pleasant in October-November. Of course, October is when the Fall rains tend to move in so it's sometimes wet and dreary. Seems the rains move in about the time the leaves turn and it rains hard enough the leaves fall before we get to enjoy the color. Actually, Fall is my favorite time of year and I could live with the color for weeks (months!) so I might be a little critical of the rain! As for the sprinkler system, I hope your hubby isn't like mine. He simply laid 1/2" pipe all over the yard---and didn't bother to bury it! He said it would eventually work it's way into the ground---maybe, but not in my lifetime! (The grass has grown over the pipe and it's barely noticable anymore.) It is nice not to have to move hose pipes or carry water and he was good enough to install several valves so I can water sections at a time---and he put hose bibbs at the end of each section so I could hook up a hose if I need to or he can add on to the "system" if he needs to. (Gary plants things all over the yard instead of in "beds" so it makes watering difficult.) Sandy
Sandy, I'm keeping up my reading, but have nothing to post. We are farther north and haven't had the heat and humidity yet, still working in the yard. Keep posting!!! Pat Durham McRae, in Indiana Researching: TRIMBLE, IVY, ELDER, HALL, FUSSELL, DURHAM, THOMPSON & FLORA, in TN & GA
Billy, I'll keep a copy of this message in my notebook and will be on the look-out for any of these names. I don't plan a trip to the library this week but my plans change. I know I have to work tomorrow and Friday---even if I don't want to! I have an auditor coming in sometime tomorrow---shouldn't take long but boss-man wants me there. (It isn't a big deal because it's an insurance audit but boss-man still doesn't know what to expect!) Friday is payroll day and if I don't show up, I'd have some upset people. I've managed to lay out all week but don't think I can do that the next couple of days. I'll keep looking! Sandy
Hi Pat--- If you want Heat and Humidity, come on to Tennessee! I have a friend in Ohio that said they went from 60s to 90s but had a storm yesterday and it's really "muggy" there today. We actually had a cool Spring--we usually go from Winter to Summer like my friend did. I try to get out early and water before the sun hits the plants then have to water again in the late afternoon when the shade is back on them. Husband and retired plumber put sprinklers all over the yard for most of the trees/shrubs and it we don't get rain soon, I'm going to have to water them---especially the Willow, Magnolia, and that new Oak Tree he planted. It's strange but when the rain comes from the West, it seems to hit the rivers and splits up---misses Montgomery County! We get most of our rain from the North- or South-west. Maybe that "cold front" they are talking about will move through here and give us a shower tonight and tomorrow. Sandy
Hi, Billy! I still have your message about the Jones deed. Montgomery County doesn't have a lot of Dickson Co. records but I did look to see if there were any Dickson County deeds that might help you---didn't find any! I looked through several indexes and didn't see your Jones'---but am still looking! I have them on my "research list" that goes everywhere I go! I sure am glad to see there's someone else at their computer! Sandy Ellis
Where is everyone on this list? Surely I'm not the only person that doesn't enjoy the heat and humidity so haven't moved from the computer all week---just waiting for someone to send a message! Sandy Ellis
