Thanks for the insight about the obscurity of Native American lineage! That could explain a LOT of things when our families seem to have just came out of no where! This is definately something to check into! Sharon
Hi All - This was on the TNMailing List - Thought I would share it with you -- it could apply to other states as well ---- >>>I'm not sure how many of yall knew this but I think its worth knowing, at least to me, it may explain alot of things... Until the year 1925 in the state of Virginia you were NOT allowed to claim ANY Native ancestry on any legal documents or papers. Example : Not allowed to put "indian" on birth certificates OR on census' !!! ALSO !! If you were White & married an Indain your marrage was not even aknowledged by the state-- Hence NO marrage records!!! AND you or your family was NOT listed on the census!!!!! So to a reasercher, your family or person does not exist!!! LOL Dont yah just love America!!!!! LOL Thought others may need to know this, and that it would explain some brick walls for some ! It has also been brought to my attension that this may be the case in = other states --
Turnbull Creek runs in the very southeast corner of Dickson Co., so the forge would have to be in that area. Steven Eleazer lived and is buried in Montgomery Bell State Park, and that is also close to Turnbull.
Thanks so much Nettye. Looks pretty interesting. I suspect that Stella Mae and Wm. Terrell may both be Timothy and Dollie Marsh Lott's children. I will see if I can find out more about them. Hi Betty Look at the second paragraph on Goodspeed's History of Dickson Co on the Dickson site. There's a bit about the various forges/iron furnaces and in which district they are located. Dear Nettye, Thanks for your reply. I have found three marriage records for Sherrod Thompson. I believe Elizabeth Clardy was his third. I'll look forward to hearing from you again whenever you have the chance. Regards, Betty Ravenholt

Sandy... I am not sure about the Wheeling West Virginia... but I was told long time ago.. after and old query where I saw that the Hayes came from KY...and a researcher of those lines, told me they were from West Virginia... but didnt say where....she said. (unforutnately she lost contact) that we should look in Rockcastle Va. I did long ago.. from on old film at the library but there were so many Hays all in the same place there that I dint know where to start as I knew so little about them...according to her,, the Hays weren't in TN all that long as they decided for reasons unknown to go back to W.V,,....this was in very early days of search so I cant give details... but the West VA is right as that searcher that was going to get back to me told me she had information on Hays,,, (so possibly she had other allied lines in the area) .... who knows what happened to her...but should we put a query in W,V and see if anyone interested in these lines would answer???..I will dig through all the old stuff but dont know how much I can find that would be of help.....I just remembered vaguely seeing quite a few Hays all in the same place.. and I think I would have started just after 1850 when we were looking for death of James Hays... Knowing what you do ,YOU, would probably recognize other names in the area if we find it again.... What next????? Lenora
Will some of you Clardy family researchers help me, please? Sherrod D. Thompson, son of Allen Thompson, is said to have married a Martha A. Smith in Davidson Co, TN, in 1840. At the time of the 1860 census, however, he is reported with wife Elizabeth, aged 29. In a secondary source for TN marriages that I have, it shows a marriage of Sherrod D. Thompson to Elizabeth F. "Clandy," 8/14/1856, in Williamson Co, TN. I know that Benjamin A. Clardy had a daugher Elizabeth F. and was living in Williamson Co. in 1850. Am I correct in assuming that Elizabeth, daughter of Benjamin A. Clardy, married Sherrod D. Thompson? Thanks for any information. Betty Ravenholt
Hi Betty, Sherrod D Thompson married Elizabeth F Clardy 14 August 1856. I don't know if he was married before. Sherrod D and Elizabeth had a daughter Tennie (probably Tennessee) who married first a Faulkner and then a Joe Roberts. I received a bunch of Clardy information and I know there's some on Tennie, but I have't looked at all of it yet. Will get back in touch as soon as I get these papers organized! I had to SHOVE these papers in a drawer, along with a lot of other things, when our company came and now that they have gone, I have to sort before I can discover what I have. Later, Nettye Ravenholt@aol.com wrote: > Will some of you Clardy family researchers help me, please?
I hate to hear that Cher has "water problems"---hope nothing got ruined! Lenora, the Trump is one of your lateral lines. His daughter was Clara Alice who married Theodore Baxter Hayes. I'll send you more information as soon as I get it! (I feel lucky---maybe I should start some serious work on Jesse and Sarah!) Just remember what I told you about what my "greats" said---it's close but not accurate! We need to be searching the Wheeling, W VA area but I'm not sure who we should be looking for! The "greats" said that James Washington Hayes and Mary Bartee were both born in Wheeling, W VA---we know Mary Bartee was born in Dickson Co. I would almost guarantee that Wheeling, W VA is another "clue"! I hope my luck encourages everyone else to not give up! I've "played" with the Trump name for so many years but never really gave it much time or thought. The photo of that "cute kid" (who happens to be my ggg-grandfather) seemed to haunt me enough I decided to try to find out more about who he was. Clara Alice (his daughter and my gg-grandmother) was born in 1859 and her brother Michael was born in 1861. The application for the widow's pension was filed in 1862. It seems strange to me that I may soon know more about him than his own children knew. Sandy Ellis
Sandy... are you jumping up and down and clickoing your heels??? I would do that for you if I could...old age prevents......congrats cousin Lenora
