    3. well I show on 1820 census that William B. Hadden and Samuel Nesbitt were within 3 households of each other (2 "Crew" families and a "Jackson" family were in between) probably doesn't help much! I've got a question about that 1820 census. does anyone know if it is complete or incomplete. I know for fact (based on land deed transactions) that John Galloway was in Dickson Co as early as 1815, but he is not listed on any census until 1830. michaelb <gengar@centurytel.net> wrote: > If you can tell me which, if any NESBITTs are > related to the HADDENs, I > would appreciate hearing. > James HADDEN married Sarah NESBUTT probably about > 1790, Spartanburg SC, then > came to Dickson Co. between 1800 and 1820. 3. If you can tell me which, if any NESBITTs are related to the HADDENs, I would appreciate hearing. James HADDEN married Sarah NESBUTT probably about 1790, Spartanburg SC, then came to Dickson Co. between 1800 and 1820. They were there for the 1820 and 1830 census. Then on to Marion Co. IL Their son, William Black HADDEN married Fanny NESBITT (said to be his cousin). They too came from Spartanburg, SC to Dickson Co. and on to Marion Co. IL. Apparently both the NESBITT ladies died in Marion Co. by about 1840, but I can find no tombstones or cemetery listings for them. I would also be interested in the names of the parents of these Nesbitts. That most sought after answer for most of us that are addicted to genealogy----"Who were their parents?" Dot Also looking for these in Dickson Co. TN: Rachel ______ who married James T. HADDEN; Moses WHITE who married Margaret HADDEN; parents/siblings of David CAMPBELL, who married Elizabeth HADDEN

    1. [TNDICKSO] Visiting Dickson County
    2. Granville Balthrop
    3. My father and I will be spending a day or two in the Dickson County area next week. Does anyone have any suggestions on special sites that we should take the time to visit while in the area. My Dad is 82 years old and he is very anxious to see this part of Tennessee which he heard a lot about when he was a youngster. He wants to wade in Yellow Creek and get his feet stained! While there, we will attempt to informally contact any Balthrop/McClurkan descendants still living in the area if they've so a mind to visit with us. I have a map showing Balthrop Branch Road and the Balthrop Cemetery. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm going to try to stay out of Nashville on this trip since it was too late for us to get tickets to the Grand Ole Opry.

    3. Oh John Nesbitt, I run across him all the time when I'm doing my research. he and John Galloway apparently lived close together on the 1830 and 1840 census as I recall. You probably have a lot of stuff, but would you like me to make notes on thingfs about him as I run across them? michaelb --- KAlexan254@aol.com wrote: > Welcome, Michael! 1. [TNDICKSO] Thanks for having me as part of the group!
    2. michael smith
    3. Hi everyone. My name is Michael Berryman Smith, I'm 37 and live in Forth Worth Texas. I have a wife and 16 year old daughter and 5 month old son. My connection to Dickson County started in 1815, when John Galloway moved there from either Sumner or Wilson Co. He married Sarah Barnett in Wilson Co in 1810. he was born in 1786 VA, and she in 1791 NC. They had many children in Dickson Co. The last child there was in 1860 and that was Indiana Galloway who had married Daniel E. Parnell. I have a really good picture of most all of the descendents. Of course, I'm always looking for more information where it pertains to John Galloway and hopefully one day I will figure out who his parents were in VA. I descend through his son Jackson Galloway who married a lady named Anna. They moved to Chickasaw MS in the early 1850's were he died before 1855. Genealogy and history in general are my passion. So much so that I recently helped a person who descends from the other Galloway family that moved into Dickson Co from PA all the way back to arrival from Ireland. I like to help people when an where I can. I understand there is another Mike Smith in the group, so for ease, I generaly go by "michaelb". I look forward to being apart of yalls group. 3. A few weeks ago, someone was asking about burials in the Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville (Montgomery Co). I just spoke with the people at Greenwood and learned they are currently putting their information on computer and plan to have it available on-line. (They don't know when the information will become available because they are a non-profit organization---but it is in the works.) Hopefully, they will use the actual burial records because I know there are many unmarked graves in the cemetery. Sandy Ellis

    1. Re: [TNDICKSO] Cemetery Directions
    2. Suzanne I do have a copy of the 1991 updated version of the Dickson County Cemetery Records Vol. 1 & 2 (Thanks to Mollie), but the directions were not updated. Cemetery names have changed and so have many of the road names. A lot of the roads don't even run the same way they did in the 1960's. Mollie (our new webpage caretaker) and I have been to several of the cemeteries, we have not gotten lost but didn't know where we were a time or two. The books will give a good starting point. Thanks Janet L.

    1. [TNDICKSO] Samuel LOCKER - NORSWORTHY - LEWIS - TURNER - BALDTHROP - HENDERSON - CLEMENTS - KOONCE - MASSEY
    2. Ken Hereford
    3. I am trying to identify the Samuel LOCKER that lived in Dickson County (at least 1823-1826). He did not appear in the Dickson County Census. Any info or theory would be appreciated. Samuel owned land in Dickson County and Lincoln County. Land grants received by Samuel LOCKER In Tennessee were: Date Acres County Grant # Book Page Type Jun 10, 1818 10 Lincoln 12141 0 763 General Grants Stewart's Creek Jun 10, 1818 10 Lincoln 12142 0 766 General Grants 28 Aug 1818 20 Lincoln 12415 0 764 General Grants On 22 November 1823 Samuel LOCKER of Dickson County, Tennessee sold 20 acres of land located at the headwaters of Stuarts Creek in Lincoln County, Tennessee to David Henderson. Since this land adjoined land later owned by our LOCKERS, it is likely that Samuel was the father or at least closely related. April 1824, in Dickson County, Tennessee Samuel LOCKER deeded to Willis NORSWORTHEY 50 acres proven by William W. BALDTHROP who also proved the handwriting of John J. LEWIS the other witness. John McADOO duly elected County trustee gave bond and security. October 1826, in Dickson county, Tennessee Samuel LOCKER deeded to Joseph KIMBLE 50 acres proven by Howard W. TURNER and Francis BALDTHROP. John J. LEWIS deeded to Samuel Locker 50 acres proven by William W. BALDTHROP and Willis NORSWORTHY. In Lincoln County, Tennessee Deed Book H, page 700 on 6 July 1830 a deed from Benjamin CLEMENTS, William NORRIS & Jesse B. CLEMENTS to David HENDERSON is recorded for 160 acres of land In Lincoln County on the head waters of Stewarts Creek. The land adjoined the south boundary line of a ten acre tract in the name of Samuel Lockhard and the south west corner of a 50 acre tract and the line of a 20 acre tract in the name of Asa MASSEY, and the west boundary line of a tract of land of 213 acres in the name of Hosea B. CLEMENTS, and by Phillip KOONCE's line of his 10 acre tract, and a line of a 20 acre tract in the name of David HENDERSON. It was witnessed by John BROWN and John McKINNEY, and registered on 10 January 1831. The Samuel LOCKHARD mentioned is likely this Samuel LOCKER (who would have been living in Mississippi) or one of his close relatives. The Asa MASSEY mentioned is also probably connected to the Locker family as is Phillip KOONCE. In the 1830 Lowndes County, Mississippi Census, Samuel LOCKER household is listed with (2) males 0-5 [Thomas and Andrew], (2) males 5-10 [Samuel E. and ? ], (1) male 10-15, (1) male 15-20, (1) male 45-50 [Samuel S.], (1) female 5-10 [Elizabeth], (1) female 35-40 [Frances], (1) slave 25-30, and (1) slave 100 - plus. The family of a Samuel LOCKER is listed in the 1840 Tippah County, Mississippi Census as (1) male under 5, (2) males 5-10, (2) males 10-15, and (1) male (50-60). Nearby are the families of Elijah and William LOCKER who were probably two of his older sons. In 1850 Samuel Locker's family is listed in the Missouri, Ouachtie, AR Census. Jack LOCKER learned that his family then moved to Bell County, TX, but had settled in Bosque County, Texas in time for the 1860 Census. According to the 1880 Census in Lincoln County, Tennessee, the father and mother of Mary Locker PATRICK were born in Tennessee. This disagrees with the census records for Samuel which list his birthplace as North Carolina. Ken Hereford herefordkm@home.com

Although the books are out of print and Cher contacted the publisher more than once trying to get them to reprint. However, I imagine that they are available in many of the major library collections. They have already done what you are looking to do. I thought it might help you to look at them if you can get a copy. You could see all they have done already.
