    1. [TNDICKSO] Re:J.V. Mitchell in Savannah TN
    2. FINALLY found my Jeremiah V. Mitchell I have been hounding all you guys about.. Just obtained his Civil War Record.... a very sad tale in itself.. disabled and died alone in 1936.....rest of his family and elations apparenetly gone or lost track of during the war. Anyway.. I have another request to ask about.. this document says that he lived in Hardin county his last years..but that he was born in Humphreys in 1847 (which I kow to be correct).....it also states at the time of his application, "that his wife Mary" had been dead 35 or 40 years by that time...so thats when the son Hale that no one has ever seen or heard of was taken to Texas to live with family, apparently son as Jeremiah joined Civil War service..... soooooooo what I need to find is his marriage to "Mary" and or death documents or info on her..possibly I can locate son in Texas if any of the information is on the death certificates....it appears that Mary died about 1867 (?) which supports the other information the family had on him... any one have suggestion to cover the Hardin-Humphreys area for the marriage of these two? Or possible a death notice in a newspaer or something.. the reords state that he served as Justice of Peace almost until his death so it must have been noted somewhere along the way......... He served at Fort Donalson, Vicksburg among other battles...dying very poor until after four years of missing records of his service he was granted a Pension because of the letters written on his behalf of those who knew him as an long time resident of the area and his work for the Courts etc....only to recieve a pension in the last years of his life and failing health.. all those he served with were deceased at that time. such a sad and sorry tale of our country..... Would at least like to obtain information regards him if I can... he seems to have lost contact with any living relatives including the ones in Texas....I feel that this is the least we can do for him... Open to suggestions..... Lenora One person says married to Mary Jarrett. but have found no documentation for this.... another gave a different name fro Marys surname...help.....

    2. gengar
    3. Thanks Karen and Michaelb. I have the page of the 1820 census of TN that you mentioned. I am guessing that the Samuel Nesbitt there may be a possible brother of Sarah Nesbitt Hadden. Sarah was born bet. 1760-1770. If the lady age 26-45 in Samuel's household is his wife, then he is probably more apt to be Sarah's brother (or cousin) than her father. I have wondered about the CREW or CREWS or CRUISE families because a lot of them settled in Marion Co. and Jefferson Co. IL and someone suggested they were somehow connected to the David Campbell who married Elizabeth Hadden, William B.'s sister, but they weren't sure how and I am not either. According to "Map Guide to the U. S. Federal Censuses, 1790-1920" by William Thorndale & William Dollarhide, the 1820 census of TN was lost "of the marshal's district of East Tennessee" for Anderson, Bledsoe, Blout, Campbell, Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamilton, Hawkins, Jefferson, Knox, McMinn, Marion, Monroe, Morgan, Rhea, Roane, Sevier, Sullivan and Washington counties. Nothing is said about any of the other counties being incomplete. There is a transcription of the 1820 Dickson Co. TN online somewhere. Maybe on the Dickson Co. page. Can't remember for sure. Maybe you have seen that already. Thanks very much. Dot

James HADDEN married Sarah NESBUTT probably about 1790, Spartanburg SC, then came to Dickson Co. between 1800 and 1820. They were there for the 1820 and 1830 census. Then on to Marion Co. IL Their son, William Black HADDEN married Fanny NESBITT (said to be his cousin). They too came from Spartanburg, SC to Dickson Co. and on to Marion Co. IL. Apparently both the NESBITT ladies died in Marion Co. by about 1840, but I can find no tombstones or cemetery listings for them. I would also be interested in the names of the parents of these Nesbitts. That most sought after answer for most of us that are addicted to genealogy----"Who were their parents?" >> Dot, I'm afraid I haven't been able to find anything else on the HADDEN-NESBITT connection, than what you have. After August I will order some more films on Spartanburg Co., SC, and look for wills, etc., but none of my extant data has any other information. Karen
