I will let her know you are looking for her immediately. I also married a Johnson, but they all seemed to have lived in Kentucky since the early 1800ies. I'm sure Lila will be contacting you soon. Regards, Susy Johnson
Mary Jarrett married my grandfathers brother Jeremiah V. Mitchell in Hardeman or Henry county... tho Jeremiah was from Dickson.......I am especially interested in the Jarrets as we also have a connnection through the Gist family.. have books on both.....the missing link in an otherwise well filled out line is a J. Jarret Gist from White county TN in earlist 1800's... Jarret Gist married a Lucinda--------. and moved to Texas.......a book states that J. Jarret was named after family members of the Jarret family.. and also named one of his sons that....unfortunately for us.. we cant document that tho it is in the published book... the connection to these two families is obvious its just that we havent the documents and have been unable to locate family members that might have them...there is a Gist Quarterly magazine that we all receive and they are also anxious to find information on this line as they publish ONLY documented information... we have verbal but no papers! Jarret and Gist connect that is broken here has been searched by many... but we hope that the way things change everyday... no records etc will surface and sources so we can charge ahead again. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated..... thank you for your time with this ..... Lenora

----- Original Message ----- From: Sue Howard To: Afternoonrocking@topica.com Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2001 6:18 PM Subject: Afternoon Rocking: Dickson Co., TN List Afternoon Rocking Does anyone know of a Lila Tracy on the Dickson Co., TN list? I would like to get in touch with her by e-mail, if possible, but I don't know her e-mail address. It has to do with a William Johnson of Pontotoc Co., Mississippi. I'm still researching my father's family out of Pontotoc Co. and this William might have been a brother to my great grandfather, Joseph Abner Johnson. I have her home address, to write to her, but I've gotten rather lazy about writing a real letter, when I can write so easily by e-mail. Thanks for any help. Sue in NH P.S. If you know of her, you could give her MY e-mail address.
thanks for the info on Cheatham.. I have submitted a query.....Lenora
Sue, your email really sparks my curiosity, becasue of the Pontotoc Co MS connection. Please allow me to explain. My connection to Dickson Co starts in 1815 with John Galloway who married Sarah Barnett in 1810. 1 of their many children is my ggggrandfather Jackson Galloway. He was born in 1823 there in Dickson Co. He can be found living at home in Dickson in 1830, then in 1840 he is gone (where I do not know). Anyway he re-apears in Hickman Co in 1850 and is married to a lady named Anna ? (she was born 1830 in KY) and they have 2 children; daughter, Indiana, born in 1846 or 47 in TN. and James Richard b. 1849 in TN. After the 1850 census Jackson and family migrated to Chickasaw Co, MS. I have not been able to figure out why, and my Galloways have no relation that I can find to the Galloways who lived in that region of MS. (Chickasaw/Pontotoc). Anyway - Jackson died before 1855 and I know this because in 1856, Anna married a John Matthew Brown and had a daughter, then another daughter in 1858, and she herself died before the 1860 census. (Best I can figure by reading up on diseases og the mid 1850 in MS is Black Measles was bad down there) I find Indiana & James both with Matthew Brown in Chickasaw in 1860 and their 1/2 sisters, then by 1870 both had married and themselves were living in Pontotoc. Indaina married into the Hitchcock family of the area and James R. married a Mary Henderson (I descend thru James and Mary) None of Jackson siblings made it to MS. So I have figured they just went there for what-ever reason. But logic tells me that generally back then people moved in groups. Anyway, maybe there is no connection, but it just seems strange that there is another connection to Pontotoc MS and Dickson Co. Thanks michaelb --- Cheryl Adams <ace1125@infi.net> wrote: > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Sue Howard > To: Afternoonrocking@topica.com > Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2001 6:18 PM > Subject: Afternoon Rocking: Dickson Co., TN List > > > Afternoon Rocking > Does anyone know of a Lila Tracy on the Dickson Co., > TN list? Maybe his family raised sheep, hence the lamb stone was sentimental????? Sharon
You are quite right about the meaning of the lamb but this stone is child size. There is no mistaking it for an adult stone. Robert Duke died in another state but had requested his body be returned to Tennessee so he could be buried with the Johnson family. His second wife and his children agreed and shipped the body to Tennessee. Here is where the mystery begins. Though he was an old man and a medical doctor, the stone on his grave was made for a child's grave (has a little lamb on top). Could be the family had that one laying around in the barn or it could be the only one available or . . . . . Are there any records concerning tombstones from the year 1916? Anyone have any ideas? Floreda
