Unfortunately, all the early census I have are hand typed and were in the possession of the Humphreys County Historian before my mother was appointed Historian. These papers were passed to her and then to me when my mother died in 1994. They state that the copies were transcribed from microfilm. 1840 - page 215, Dist. 1 - William W. Mitchell page 219, Dist . 2 - David Mitchell page 222, Dist . 3 - Isaac Mitchell 1830 - page 30 - David H. Mitchell William W. Mitchell 1820 - Jeremiah Mitchell Benjamin Mitchell Isaac Mitchell 1812 - John Mitchell Jeremiah Mitchell According to the names of their neighbors, these Mitchells always appear to be living in the northwest portion of Humphreys County near the Dickson County line. Hope this helps a little and I will search my other Humphreys County records very soon. Best wishes, Susy Johnson

    2. Mollie, I have been looking for my ggm, Agnes Mayes Hendrick. They lived in Charlotte when my gm, her youngest child was born in 1886. They were on the 1880 census, and then they vanished!!! All I know is she died when my gm was very young and they picked up and moved to KY. Her parents were George and Livinia(Davis) Mayes. If you run into any of them on your excursion, take a pic and say HI for me, OK? Have loads of fun!!! Sharon Kay

    1. Re: [TNDICKSO] White Oak and Yellow Creek Road
    2. A question from a distant cousin........distances on maps........................in review the cemetery maps and directions.. I see the directions using white Oak and Yellow Creek together.....My Mitchell grandparents as I said before were found on an 1838-40 Tax list and it stated located on White Oak Road. where I accidently found them when I couldn't find them on early Dickson lists.....in Dickson they lived on Yellow Creek Road.. even though it sounds like two different places.. I think it is one and the same and that they didnt move as I have been told that the Mitchells lived on Yellow Creek a long time. Same place right? Lenora

    1. [TNDICKSO] Re: Mitchell-McAdoo/ KY and TN border
    2. HI Cathy.... the Deed of Sale was around 1857 if I recall.. its been put away with other papers at the moment.................From Arabella Mitchell to William Robert Mtichell...it would have been before 1860 as W.R and family went briefly to KY. which was just across the way, according to Kentucky cleck, and common at that time...and were on an 1860 census... In efforts to lcoate information another cllerk took it uppoon herself to search older papers found there in KY...Cadiz, but then found an Index Card File,, ( didnt have the whole file as it was appaarently used as temporary record)... where it stated on this liltle card that William R. And Aramenta Hays. Mitchell , my grandparents... had a daughter born in 1860 in Lyon. Apparently Lyon was very small and records belonged to Cadiz.. after that I had lost track of them as they no longer appeared on any records there........Never found them until many years later,, when looking into Texas records for different family members found William and Aramenta there in Hunt county TX oon 1870 census... Hunt was not far from Hopkins and places that an allied family line lived. The clerk wrote a personal letter regards them crossing over to Ky and said that at that time it was a the "pass through" between the two aeeeeeeas adn since it was larger many crossed there for shopping and or larger needs than could be had in Dickson at the time.....she said it was like two different palces across the river seperated only by the bridge used to cross the river....Clarksville was across the way. At that time of course I didnt know about the McAdoos... and only recently has it seemed to point into the areas we are talking about.. The Pension for Jeremiah V. Mitchell, Wm.R's brother came about in Henry county in 1862 to 1864........ during the retreaats from Fort Donalson etrc.. records were lost and burned....Jeremiah,, joining the army at 17 years old... ahd suffered from the long marches without foods and clothing and was walking barefoot through frozen ground and and other horrible experiences.......his feet became so damaged that the Asst. Surgeon said that he couldnt walk the 100 miles needed , to go back behing the lines and recover..........seems he barely exxcaped caaapture and finally made it behing the lines... much the worse for wear... and stayed there until the Surgeon said he was unfit for service.. now suffering from other maladies..... so he weent to Henry, where he had enlisted......most of his family had moved to other places in TN by that time.. aand being in ill heallth and with no funds.. he stayed and made a liviing in Henry until he died in 1936............ the letters written in his pension file show that it took three years to get a Pension for this poor man,,, about $12.00, ,,were written by the TN Senator and all the persons whoh had known him all his life.....a long struggle... he subsisted by being appoint Jusssstice of The Peace for that area for more than 20 years. Perhaps, as the Cadiz KY clerk has suggessted... I should look for McAdoo's across in Trigg area.. if they just all crossed a bridge to get there.. that would explain why all those Mitchells were ther and if I go back to 1850 and start anew maybe thats where the McAdoos started too. Its going to be a long ride I think..... Lenora

    3. Hi Folks, Is there anyone on the list who might be a descendant of this John Griffith? In June, 1826 he purchased, from the estate sale of Susannah Rook, 72 ac. of land with ½ ac reserved for a grave yard in Montgomery Co. I am trying to find out where this land was located, thus finding the cemetery where I believe John and Susannah Rook are buried. Does anyone have a clue? I have sent this to the Montgomery list also. If you are a member of another list close to Montgomery, please feel free to pass it along to your list. If anyone knows anything they can reply directly to me. Thanks. Jean Hancock in TX theshadow@glade.net

    3. Lenora -- What was the date on the deed of sale? On what date was the letter for the pension written? I've been trying to find a William McAdoo and a Sarah McAdoo both of whom are connected to Dickson County, but I'm having trouble. A date range would help. 3. 1st of all thanks Pat! 2nd, I've been reviewing some deed transactions (circa 1830's) and I'm just curious if anyone out there is familiar with any of the following names - John Edwards, Henry Ross, Walter Barnett, James Ivy/Ives? I'm only interested in all of these names sa they are mentioned in land transactions concerning my Galloways in an area of Dickson on the "Chickasaw Trace Creek of Big Harpath River" [road from Charlotte to Nashville]. The only name I suspect is related to my Galloways is Walter Barnett. exctract from deed, "...there is granted by the state unto James Galloway assignee of Walter Barnett a certain tract or parcel of land containing 100 acres....." also in another extract, " ...thence west crossing said Barnett's corner of his 50 acres..." These 2 exctracts tell me 2 things; 1 - James Galloway (eldest son of John Galloway and Sarah [Barnett] Galloway was given a deed that belonged to Walter Barnett. When I researched the grants it list James Galloway as claiming. The 2nd extract also tells me that W. Barnett had an additional 50 acres in Dickson that bordered the 100 James got. The funny thing is, I can find no Walter Barnett in Dickson Co on census or any other land deeds! Does anyone have any thoughts? --- Canopy2@aol.com wrote: > Michael, I am new to my HALL line, and don't > recognize the WILLIAM HALL that > you are inquiring about, that does not mean that > they are not connected. 1. [TNDICKSO] Rosanna Brown/Hall
    2. Paul Knoop
    3. Sue, Pat, Ben.and others I found this site while looking for John Brown who married Martha Gilbert in Georgia. Found lots of Browns (not John and Martha) but I did see a Rosanna Brown , b 24 Sept 1787, who married ? Hall. It lists the siblings of Rosanna and her parents. I see no documentation, but might be a clue if you don't have this information. The Roots and Twigs site is: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~jeanette/Roots.htm Good ;luck, Nettye
