Sara, I loved that story. By the way I know exactly where Franklin, IN is, and I have an on-line friend from there, and we have visited one another. There is also a nice college there. Pat Durham McRae, in Indiana
Hi, Linda, I am told there is no poison ivy "out west" (I live in Florida but am from Louisiana, both have lots and lots of the stuff to which I am terribly allergic). One big mystery: we visited Pipe Stone National Monument in southern Minnesota. As we walked along the trail there was a sign "beware of poison ivy" - I looked and looked and could see none (at least poison ivy I am familiar with). There was a really nice looking vine growing quite prolifically - did not even resemble poison ivy (but, trust me, I did not touch it to find out!). I wonder if that was a clever way of keeping people on the trail!?!?!?! Anyway, about your Reeves - is that the family of Daniel, Rev Sol, whose daughter Nancy married Orman Allen Simpkins? If so, please let me know. Floreda At 09:55 AM 8/17/01 EDT, you wrote: >Hi All - Was reading your poison ivy stories. Seems one branch of my family >tree is immune to it !!!! We were visiting my mother's family in Franklin, TN, and were going to visit friends who lived on a farm in nearby Maury Co. Having heard my mother worry aloud about the chiggers, I innocently asked her why her friends couldn't just put the chiggers up while we were visiting. Sara Binkley Tarpley

Funny, but poison ivy and the antidote tend to grow together. An old Indian remedy for poison ivy that works is the stalk of the poke weed, or poke sallet as it were. Split the stalk, and rub it on the affected area and it dries it up almost over night. Try it next time you get into poison ivy! Hi, Mollie, Me, too. I live in Tallahassee, Fl which is hot, hot, hot and damp, damp, damp. The very first time I recorded a cemetery was on a very hot damp July day some twenty five years ago. The cemetery was a very old one on private property and we (my friend Phyllis and I) were invited to record it. I borrowed my husband's snake leggings (which it turned out I put on upside down - I thought the little "knee thing" was for the feet) and we had a marvelous time. Thankfully there was no poison ivy (I can spot it a mile off) and we saw only one snake - he was so busy running away from us we figured he was a friendly snake. It's much easier in cool weather but you grab it when you can. You have me all excited about going out hunting another cemetery. Years ago my aunt and I visited the Johnson Family Cemetery where one of my ancestors is buried. Unfortunately, in my excitement I slammed the door on my hand and was in no shape to do anything but be happy I got there. Another kind lady recorded it since then.
