    3. Mollie, What a great idea! I subscribe to a page out of North Carolina, and all the queries come to all the subscribers. Who knows what one may find this way. I, too sometimes forget to check the query boards, so this makes it easier. Wayne McCormick Mollie H Simpson wrote: > I would like to take a poll of all the members of the Dickson Diggers List.. 3. Dear Sandy, I dug out Miles Thomas Ellis as the father of Noah Webster Ellis (wife of Sadie Cora McClurkan), but Debby Sullins has updated and filled in a bunch of holes for me when she was jogged by this memo (I guess). The other Ellis that I'm rabid about for the nonce is Thomas Ellis, spouse of Lucy Balthrop. I would estimate that they were born around 1775 or a little later. They were married in North Carolina, but apparently they came with her father and other members of the family to the Dickson County area of Tennessee around 1815. There is an old handwritten note in the records of her mother's will in the Dickson County courthouse from her brother Francis to her brother Willie (Wiley), serving as executor, indicating that Willie needed to provide some funds to "sister" Lucy (apparently a loan to her mother) out of the estate of her mother to pay off a claim against the estate. I show two sons, Michael T Ellis and William E Ellis, birthdates unknown/birthplaces prob NC. Other than that, I've not found "zippo" about the rest of their ancestors or descendants on the Ellis line. The Ellis line was particularly...uh...prolific in Tennessee, so hunting is difficult. 3. Mary, I don't know "Aunt Gracie" Ellis---but would love to know more about her! Several of us are working on the Ellises in this area to see if they are somehow related. My husband's Ellis moved from NC to Montgomery County about 1812. By 1832 he moved to Calloway Co., KY but left a brother in Montgomery County and some cousins in Robertson Co. He (Hardy) and his brother (Miles) lived very close to the Montgomery/Dickson County line so we are searching both counties (and all the surrounding counties). We suspect many of the Ellises now living in this area to be descendants of Miles Ellis. Miles and Polly Bobbitt Ellis "disappeared" after the 1841 tax list but many of the older people we have talked to have given us names and other information that makes us think their children either remained in the area or returned to it after Miles and Polly died. I'm sure several people on this list will be watching to see if you happen to know more about "Aunt Gracie's" Ellis line or how we might contact someone in the family that could tell us about it! Sandy Ellis
