I have a copy of the book at home. I will see if there is another name of a publishing company in the book. If we can't get you a copy I would be happy to share (scan and Send it) with you. 3. Dear Joyce, Hello, I don't know if I know what I'm talking about, but what is "Reflections of Our Past" about? The reason I ask is because neighboring Houston County just did a book entitled that and it is a pictorial history. Just thought I would throw that in. 3. I just wondered if you knew about the Dickson place on Bear Creek. (The old log house was located across from the intersection of Wolf Branch Road and Bear Creek Road. In the 1970's there was an elderly man living there named Ike Dickson. The house was a very old log house with a dog trot in the middle. The house remained there until the 1990's when UNBELIEVABLY (to me anyway) the people that bought the farm, tore down the lovely old homeplace and replaced it with a metal building! There were several hundred acres with the place when it sold in the 1980's. My husband and I looked at it when it was for sale then. There was a fairly large cemetery on the place at that time that had numerous Dickson people buried on it. It had a chain link fence around it and was kept up at that time. Since then, the people have divided up the farm into 5 acre lots. I wondered if it at one time had enough acreage to reach the banks of Yellow Creek? It probably is about a mile or two on down Bea! r Creek from where the old house was to where Yellow Creek is. ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] Sent: Friday, November 12, 2004 8:48 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [TNDICKSO] [Forum:] Raccoon Creek John DICKSON The following new message has been posted on Forum at <http://www.tngenweb.org/dickson/webbbs/queries/index.cgi>. *************************************************************************** MESSAGE: (#536) Raccoon Creek John DICKSON <http://www.tngenweb.org/dickson/webbbs/queries/index.cgi?rev=536> AUTHOR: Russell James DATE: Friday, 12 November 2004, at 7:42 a.m. On 6 January 1823 the sale of the estate of John DICKSON was filed by his administrators (Robert DICKSON, Hugh DICKSON, & Joseph DICKSON) in Dickson Co., TN (Source: Estate Settlement Book, Dickson Co. My theory is that Raccon Creek John DICKSON, Dry Branch Hugh DICKSON, Bear Creek James DICKSON (moved on to Perry Co.) and Bartons Creek Joseph DICKSON (Montgomery Co. DIckson Author: Russell James Date: Friday, 12 November 2004, at 6:38 a.m. Russ, I wish I could say that I could help, but I am already genealogically swamped [not to mention taking care of my family and getting ready for the holidays]! Jerry Binkley agrees with you that this Abner Binkley was the son of Joseph Dickson and Martha Ann Cowan. He shows this Joseph as dying about 1839 in Montgomery County. He shows the children of Joseph and Martha Ann, in addition to Abner, as Hugh, James [m. Mary McCauley], Martha [m. William Trotter], Margaret [m. Allen E. Brown], William, Anna Kate [m. Mathew McCauley], John B. [m. Nancy L. Binkley], Joseph D. [m. Sarah A. Duvall], A. Wilson [m. Mary A. Lewis]. As I am not a Dickson, the only one of these families that I have personally researched is John B. Dickson and Nancy L. Binkley, who was the daughter of my great-great grandparents Frederick Binkley and Adeline Shackleford. [Frederick was one of the carpenters who built Travellers Rest for John Overton. He and Adeline were the grandparents of Dr. David Campbell Kelley Binkley, who married Abner Dickson's daughter Florence Eudora.] John B. Dickson and Nancy L. Binkley were married on 5 Dec. 1846 in Dickson County and had children Gustavus Augustus [abt.1848-1883], Milton Foster [abt. 1849-1870], Anne M. [b. abt. 1852], Newton Ethelred [b. abt. 1854], Emma A. [1856-1878], John Bell [b. 1858], Neppie Louise [b. 1860, m. Thomas Haskins], and Jasper. These children have been difficult to track, several have died young, and so far I have found no grandchildren for John and Nancy. John B. Dickson died in 1894; Nancy died in 1868. 3. I have a little information that probably ties in to this house and cemetery. The house was the home of James Michael Bull who married Sarah Jane Patey Both are buried in this cemetery. James Michael Bull was the son of the below mentioned James Bull and Adelie Ann Bull. The name Patey is often mis-pronounced and mis-spelled. My name is James Patey and my line of Pateys goes back to Theophilus Patey, born 1632 in England. He had a brother who called himself Hubert Petty, born 1640 in England. Their parents were Edward Patey born 1602 in England and Ann Shillito. This Hubert Petty died June 2, 1687 in Lancaster County, VA. There are many internet sources showing Pettys across America as descending from this Hubert Petty.
